Holly Holm and Ketlen Vieira face off on Saturday in the main event of UFC Fight Night 206 in a women’s bantamweight showdown at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Holm is currently ranked 2nd in the division while Vieira is ranked 5th.
Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm comes into this game with a 14-5 record overall and she has won two fights in a row. Each of the last two wins has been by unanimous decision. Holm’s last fight was in October of 2020 and she outstruck Irene Aldana 154-69. She also had five takedowns. Holm’s last loss came against Amanda Nunes in July of 2019 by knockout. Holm is averaging 3.16 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2.80 significant strikes per minute. She is averaging 0.81 successful takedowns every 15 minutes and she is successful on 30 percent of his takedown attempts. Holm also stops 76 percent of her oppoennts takedown attempts. Holm has made it very clear that if she wins this fight, she wants another shot at the title belt.
On the other side of this matchup is Ketlen Vieira who sits with a 12-2 record overall, but she has been a bit more inconsistent as of late. Over her last four fights, she has gone 2-2, but is coming off an impressive victory. Vieira actually was outrstruck by Meisha Tate 122-113, but she did enough to win by unanimous decision. Vieira is averaging 3.07 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 4.07 significant strikes per minute. Vieira is averaging 1.71 takedowns every 15 minutes, and she is successful on 46 percent of her takedown attempts. She also stops 90 percent of her opponent's takedown attempts. Only once since coming into the UFC has Vieira had a stoppage victory, and that was by submission.
For Vieira to have a chance to win this fight, she needs to get the fight to the ground, but I expect Holm is going to do a good job of not letting that happen. Holm has done a good job as of late of striking and then stepping back and avoiding the clinch. Vieira is going to do enough to get to the final bell here, but she isn’t going to do enough to win this by decision. Back Holm to win by decision.
