Katlyn Chookagian and Amanda Ribas face off on Saturday in a women’s flyweight showdown in the main card of UFC on ESPN 36 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Chookagian is ranked 1st in the flyweight division while Ribas is ranked 9th.
Katlyn “Blonde Fighter” Chookagian comes into this fight with a 17-4 record overall and she has won three fights in a row, each by unanimous decision. Chookagian’s last fight came against Jennifer Maia in January and it was a dominant fight. She outstruck Maia 72-52 and she also had one takedown to secure the unanimous decision. Chookagian is averaging 4.59 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 4.30 significant strikes per minute. She mostly wants to keep the fight on the feet and is averaging 0.31 takedowns every 15 minutes. She is successful on 16 percent of her takedown attempts and she stops 55 percent of her takedown attempts.
On the other side of htis matchup is Amanda Ribas who sits with an 11-2 record overall and since coming into the UFC she has won five of her six fights. In Ribas, last fight against Virna Jandiroba in October of 2021 she outstruck her 88-50 and that led to the unanimous decision victory. Two fights ago against Marina Rodriguez, Ribas was dominated, and early in the second round, she was knocked out. Ribas is averaging 4.65 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2.17 significant strikes per minute. Ribas is averaging 1.99 takedowns every 15 minutes and she is successful on 47 percent of her takedown attempts. She also stops 86 percent of her opponent's takedown attempts. She also averages 1.5 submission attempts every 15 minutes.
If these two had the same body, the way to bet this might be with Ribas, but Chookagian has a big advantage. Chookagian is six inches taller and has a five-inch reach advantage with his legs. Chookagian is going to dominate the fight from a distance, and she is going to do a good job of keeping the fight on the feet. I am not sure Chookagian will win the fight by finish, but she will come away with a victory. Back Chookagian on the money line.
