Ian Garry and Darian Weeks face off in the main prelim of UFC 273 in a welterweight battle at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. This is a big fight for both guys as they try to climb up the ranks.
Ian Garry will be fighting his second fight inside the UFC on Saturday night. Garry comes into this one with an 8-0 record and he has been pretty dominant. In the last fight against Jordan Williams, he was actually being outstruck but right at the end of the first round, he finished the fight by knockout. Garry is averaging 3.61 significant strikes per minute while their defense is giving up 4.41 significant strikes per minute. The first fight Garry stayed on the feet and he was able to stop Williams takedown attempts. Even though he won that last fight, he got off to a slow start in the first round and that can’t happen again in this game.
On the other side of this matchup is Darian Weeks who comes into this one with a 5-1 record but he lost his first UFC fight. In December of 2021 Weeks faced off with Bryan Barberena and he was competitive, but lost by unanimous decision. Weeks outstruck him 118-108 and he also had four takedowns but still couldn’t pull off the victory. Week is averaging 7.87 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 7.20 significant strikes per minute. Weeks is averaging four takedowns every 15 minutes and he is successful on 50 percent of his takedown attempts. In this fight, Weeks is going to need to do more to try and finish it, and not let the judge decide it.
Darian Weeks threw a lot of punches in the last fight but couldn’t find the fight, and he isn’t going to get the job done again in this game. Garry has the knockout power and he is going to attack the chin of Weeks again. Weeks might hang on for a bit, but the longer the fight goes, Garry is going to become more dominant and Garry will finish the fight by knockout.
