Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo face off in the flyweight title bout for the co-main event of UFC 270 at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Moreno is currently the champion while Figueiredo is the number one ranked fighter.
This will be the third matchup between the two fighters. Back in December of 2020, the fight ended in a draw. In June of 2021, Moreno got some revenge locking in a rear naked choke in the 3rd round and coming away with a submission victory.
Brandon “The Assassin Baby” Moreno comes into this fight with a 19-5-2 record overall and he has won four of his last five fights. Moreno is averaging 3.44 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.29 significant strikes per minute. He is good at getting the fight to the ground averaging 2.05 takedowns every 15 minutes and he is successful on 47 percent of those attempts. Moreno also stops 65 percent of his opponents takedown attempts. Moreno was aggressive with his striking in the last fight, and he is going to need to get out to a fast start in this one. If he can do that, he can pick up his second straight win against Figueiredo.
On the other side of this fight is Deiveson Figueiredo who comes into this fight with a 20-2-1 record. There is no doubt he is talented, but this is a fight he really needs to win or his next title shot might be a ways away. Figueiredo comes into this fight averaging 3.24 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.40 significant strikes per minute. Figueiredo is averaging 1.54 successful takedowns every 15 minutes and he is successful on 52 percent of his takedown attempts. Figueiredo also stops 58 percent of his opponents takedown attempts.
Moreno was quite impressive in the last and I don’t see any way that Figueiredo bounces back. Moreno is going to get control of this fight early, and Figueiredo is going to have no answer for the attack. I am not sure Moreno wins this fight by finish, but this is a safe bet on the money line. Back Moreno on the money line.
