Rob Font and Jose Aldo face off on Saturday in the main event of UFC Vegas 44 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Font is currently the 4th ranked fighter in the bantamweight division while Aldo is ranked 5th in the division.
Rob Font comes into this game with a 19-4 record overall and coming into this fight he has won four fights in a row. In two of those fights, Font won by knockout, and the other two fights were won by unanimous decision. Font’s last fight came against Cody Garbrandt in May of 2021 and he won that fight by unanimous decision. Font outstruck Garbrandt 176-63 and even though he was taken down three times, there was very little doubt that he had won. Font is averaging 5.58 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.57 significant strikes per minute. He wants to get the fight to the ground averaging 1.20 takedowns every 15 minutes and he is successful on 40 percent of his takedown attempts. Font also stops 60 percent of his opponent's takedown attempts. In this fight, Font needs to inflict some damage early.
On the other side of this matchup is Jose Aldo who is one of the best fighters in UFC history, and comes into this fight with a 30-7 record overall. Even with all the success, he has been a little more inconsistent as of late losing three fights in a row before winning his last two. In Aldo’s last fight against Pedro Munhoz he outstruck him 114-75 and that led to the unanimous decision victory. Aldo’s last win by knockout came all the way back in February of 2019. Aldo doesn’t have the chance he once had, and he is going to need to try and miss some of the damage. If he can stay away from the power of Font, he will have a chance to come away with the victory.
Aldo’s chin is going to be tested in this fight, and it’s going to fail him. Look for Font to inflict a ton of damage early, and this one is going to be over early. Look for Aldo to struggle with the pressure and Font will win this fight on the money line.
