Randy Brown and Jared Gooden face off on Saturday in a welterweight battle for the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 194 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Randy “Rudeboy” Brown comes into this game with a 13-4 record overall but over his last two starts, he has a 1-1 record. Brown’s last start came against Alex Oliveria in April of 2021, and it was midway through the first round, he finished the fight with a rear-naked choke. Brown is averaging 3.72 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2.79 significant strikes per minute. Brown at times is averaging 0.98 takedowns every 15 minutes and is successful on 46 percent of the attempts. Brown also stops 71 percent of his opponents' takedown attempts. His last loss came in August of 2020 against Vicente Luque and he got knocked out by a knee.
On the other side of this matchup is Jared Gooden who comes into this game with an 18-6 record but since coming into the UFC he has gone 1-2. Gooden’s one win came in his last game against Niklas Stolze in July of 2021, and it was a minute into the fight that he finished the fight by knockout. The two losses were by unanimous decision. Gooden is currently averaging 5.04 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 7.55 significant strikes per minute. He is averaging 0.96 successful takedowns every 15 minutes, and is successful on 100 percent of his takedown attempts. He also stops 83 percent of the takedown attempts.
The wrong guy is favored in this fight. I have not been impressed since Gooden stepped into the UFC, and Brown can stay away from the power. Look for the pace of this fight to frustrate Gooden, and Brown will take advantage. Back Brown to win this fight, and for the plus money to cash.
