Tecia Torres and Angela Hill face off on Saturday in a women’s strawweight showdown in the main card of UFC 265 at the Toyota Center in Houston.
Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres comes into this fight with a 12-5 record overall and she has won two fights in a row. Torres last fight was against Sam Hughes in December of 2020, and that was a fight she won by knockout. Torres is averaging 4.30 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.37 significant strikes per minute. Torres is also averaging 0.68 takedowns every 15 minutes but she is successful on only 15 percent of her takedown attempts. Torres is also stopping 56 percent of her opponents' takedown attempts. Torres at times will sometimes go for a submission, but it’s not often, as Torres is averaging 0.1 submission attempts every 15 minutes. Torres at one point during her career did go through a four fight losing streak, and all four of those losses were by unanimous decision.
On the other side of this matchup is Angela “Overkill” Hill who has a 13-9 record overall but she has lost two of her last three fights. The one win during that stretch was in their last game against Ashley Yoder. HIll outstruck Yoder 77-34 and that led to the unanimous decision victory. Angela Hill is averaging 5.66 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 4.98 significant strikes per minute. Hill is averaging 0.45 takedowns every 15 minutes but she is only successful on 0.45 percent of her takedown attempts. Hill does a good job of stopping her opponents on takedowns, stopping 76 percent of them. Hill has a lot of power in her hands and is also a fighter who likes to throw a lot of shots early in fights.
Hill is the better fighter in this one, and she should actually be the favorite. Look for Hill to find success early in this one with her hands, and her pressure will be too much for Torres. Back Hill to pull the upset.
