Marion Reneau and Miesha Tate face off in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 26 in a women’s bantamweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Marion “The Belizean Bruiser” Reneau comes into this fight with a 9-7-1 record overall but she has lost four fights in a row. Reneau’s last fight came against Macy Chiasson and she really struggled in that fight as she lost by unanimous decision. Reneau’s last fight is averaging 3.29 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.37 significant strikes per minute. Reneau mostly likes to keep the fight on the feet but she is averaging 0.66 takedowns every 15 minutes. She is also successful on 63 percent of her takedown attempts. Reneau is also averaging 0.8 submission attempts every 15 minutes.
On the other side of this matchup is Miesha “Cupcake” Tate who comes into this one with an 18-7 record overall but she has lost two fights in a row. Tate’s last fight was against Raquel Pennington in May of 2016. After that last fight Tate hung up the gloves for a bit, but she has decided to make a comeback. Tate most famously beat Holy Holm to win the belt back in 2016. Tate is averaging 1.93 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2.71 significant strikes per minute. Tate is also averaging 2.06 successful takedowns every 15 minutes but she is only successful on 31 percent of her takedown attempts/ Tate is also stopping 52 percent of her opponents' takedown attempts. This is a long layoff for Tate, and that’s a big concern for her heading into this fight.
The long layoff for Tate is a big concern for me, but it really feels like the UFC is giving her a layup in this first fight. Tate is going to get out to a fast start and get the job done. If it wasn’t such a long layoff, Tate would be closer -220 or -240.
