Matt Brown and Dhiego Lima face off on Saturday in a welterweight bout in the main card of UFC Vegas 29 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Matt “The Immortal” Brown comes into this fight with a 24-18 record overall, but he has lost two fights in a row. In the last fight against Carlos Condit in January of 2021 and he struggled as he lost by unanimous decision. Brown’s last win came against Ben Saunders in December of 2019, and he won that fight late in the second round. Brown comes into this one averaging 3.69 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2,67 significant strikes per minute. Brown is averaging 1.56 takedowns every 15 minutes, and he is successful on 44 percent of his takedown attempts. Brown is also stopping 63 percent of his opponent’s takedown attempts. Brown at times has gotten out to slow starts, and that can’t happen again in this game.
On the other side of this matchup is Dhiego Lima who comes into this game with a 17-8 record overall and he had won three games in a row before losing his last fight against Belal Muhammad. In that last fight, Lima’s last win came back in October of 2019 against Luke Jumeau, and he was able to win by split decision. Lima is averaging 3.14 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.93 significant strikes per minute. Lima at times also gets the fight to the floor and he is averaging 1.38 successful takedowns every 15 minutes. Lima also stops 73 percent of his opponent’s takedown attempts. Lima usually likes to fight a slower pace, but that is something that might hurt him in this one.
Brown looks to be at the end of his UFC career, and this is going to be another loss for him. Brown is going to show his age again, and that will lead to Lima getting the job done. Back Lima to win this game at a very reasonable price.
