Tyron Woodley and Vicente Luque face off on Saturday in a welterweight bout in the co-main event of UFC 260 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley comes into this fight with a 19-6-1 record overall but he has lost three fights in a row. Each of the last three fights, Woodley has been dominated from basically the start and it’s not going to get any easier in this one. Woodley’s last fight came against Colby Covington and in the 5th round he was knocked out. Woodley is averaging 2.33 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2.72 significant strikes per minute. Woodley is also averaging 1,08 successful takedowns every 15 minutes and is successful on 40 percent of his attempts. Woodley also has great takedown defense stopping 87 percent of his opponents takedown attempts.
On the other side of this matchup is Vicente Luque who sits with a 19-7-1 record overall and he has won two fights in a row. In the last fight against Randy Brown in August of 2020, it was late in the second round that he finished the fight by knee. Luque is averaging 5.72 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 5.82 significant strikes per minute. Luque likes to keep the fight on the feet for the most part averaging 0.68 successful takedowns every 15 minutes and he is successful on 50 percent on his takedown attempts. Luque is also stopping 64 percent of his takedown attempts and that is going to be important in this one. Luque is also averaging 0.8 submission attempts every 15 minutes.
Tyron Woodley is struggling and I don’t think it’s going to get any easier in this game. I don’t think Woodley is going to get the fight to the ground, and that will be the difference. Look for Luque to finish this fight by knockout. I think Woodley might hang on for a bit in this fight at least, and throwing a few dollars on Luque to win this fight in the third round could bring back a big reward.
