Robert Whittaker and Darren Till face off in a middleweight bout for the main event of UFC on ESPN 14 at UFC Fight Island, Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates. There will be very limited fans in attendance for this game. Whittaker is currently the number one ranked fighter in the division while Till is the number five ranked fighter.
Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker is coming off a loss in a title fight in the last fight, but he hopes a win or two will get him another chance at the battle. Overall during his career, Whittaker has a 21-5 record and over his last ten fights he has won nine of them. The only loss during that stretch by Whittaker was in the last fight against Israel Adesanya. In that fight he was worn down andw in the second round he was finished with a knockout.
Whittaker is a standup striker that has knockout power and he will look to finish this one early. Whittaker is averaging 4.77 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.70 significant strikes per minute. He likes to keep the fight on the feet but he is averaging 0.36 successful takedowns every 15 minutes. His last takedown came seven fights ago.
On the other side of this fight is Darren Till who hopes he could get a title shot with a win in this fight. Till comes into this fight with a 18-2-1 record but coming into this fight he has lost two of his last three.fights. Till had lost two fights in a row by finish, before getting back on the right track in his last fight against Kelvin Gastelum Till was actually outstruck in that fight, but he still had enough fight control to come away with a split decision win.
Til is a strong standup fighter, but he also has elite skills when he starts the ground and pound. Till is averaging 2.41 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.03 significant strikes per minute. Till is also averaging 0.66 successful takedowns every 15 minutes
Till really hasn’t been all that impressive as of late, and Whittaker is no doubt the better fighter. Look for him to throw more power punches and come away with the victory.
