Nathaniel Wood and John Castaneda face off in a bantamweight bout on UFC on ESPN 14 at UFC Fight Island, Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates. There will be very limited fans in attendance for this game. Both of these fighters are currently unranked. This will be the first fight of the evening and both players will be trying to put on a show.

Nathaniel “The Prospect” Wood comes into this fight with a 16-4 record and since coming into the UFC he has gone 3-1. The only loss for Wood during his UFC career was in his last fight against John Dodson in February of 2020. In that fight, early in the third round, Wood was knocked out with a big punch. Each of his three wins during the UFC have come by submission. Everyone of Wood’s fights in the UFC have gone out of the first round.

Wood comes into this fight averaging 4.30 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.16 significant strikes per minute. Wood also averages 1.90 successful takedowns every 15 minutes and 1.5 submission attempts every 15 minutes. When Wood tries his submission attempts, he usually comes away with the finish.

John “Sexy Mexi” Castaneda will be making his UFC debut when he steps into the octagon and him getting a chance is a bit of a surprise just based on him losing two of his last three fights, but the last fight was a win. Castaneda’s last fight came against Marcelo Rojo and in the third round, he won by an arm-triangle choke.

Each of Castaneda’s last two losses have come by decision and during his career, he has only been knocked out one time. Castaneda has won 17 fights during his career, six knockouts, six submissions, and five decisions.

Castaneda is lucky to be getting his UFC debut but it isn’t going to go well for him. Wood is going to put Castaneda in a bad position and Castaneda is not going to be able to get away from it. Look for Wood to finish this fight by submission. There is no value with the money line so the submission is the only way to bet this fight straight up.
