Diana Belbita and Liana Jojua face off in a women’s flyweight bout at UFC Fight Night 172 which will take place at UFC’s Fight Island in Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates. Like the last few events, there will be no fans in attendance for this event. Both of these fighters are currently unranked.
Diana “The Warrior Princess” Belbita is looking for her first win inside the UFC when she steps inside the octagon on Wednesday. Overall Belbita has a 13-5 record overall and she has won four of his last five fights. The one loss during that stretch was in her last fight against Molly McCann. One of the big issues in the last fight for Belbita in the last fight was her takedown defense. Belbita was taken down five times against McCann.
In terms of victories, two of his last four victories by Belbita have come by knockout. The last win by Belbita came by armbar and one of the other wins came by decision. In this fight, Belbita is going to need to be better against takedown attempts
Liana “She Wolf” Jojua overall comes into this fight with a 7-3 record but she is still looking for her first win in the UFC. In Jojua’s first fight in the UFC she faced off with Sarah Mores and that fight didn’t go as planned. Morases outstruck Jojua 44-19 in that fight, and that wore her down. Jojua did have two takedowns in the fight but in the third round she was knocked out by elbows. Before Jojua’s last loss, she had won five fights in a row. Three of those five wins came by armbar and there is no doubt she will look for that type of finish in this game. Her last win came in February of 2019 by majority decision.
Jojua’s last win came in 2018 and that long of layoff is concerning and will let her down in this fight. Belbita will keep the fight on the feet and that is going to be the difference as she comes away with a victory.
