Amanda Ribas and Paige VanZant face off in a women’s flyweight bout at UFC 251 which will take place at UFC’s Fight Island in Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates. Like the last few events, there will be no fans in attendance for this event. Ribas is currently ranked 15th in the county while VanZant is unranked, but still a dangerous fighter.
Amanda Ribas comes into this fight with a 9-1 record overall and since coming into the UFC she has gone 3-0. Ribas last fight came against Randa Markos in March of 2020. In that fight Ribas was dominant, out striking Markos 85-36. Ribas also tried two submission attempts in that fight and even though she couldn’t finish any of them she still won by unanimous decision.
Ribas is averaging 4.84 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 1.70 significant strikes per minute. She has done a really good job of limiting damage, and in this fight she is going to need to make sure that is the case. Ribas is averaging 2.02 successful takedowns every 15 minutes and 1.6 submission attempts during the same period.
Paige “12 Gauge” VanZant might be known more for what she does outside the octagon, but she is also a very good fighter. VanZant comes into this fight with an 8-4 record but coming into this fight she has lost two of her last three.
The one win during that stretch was in their last fight against Rachael Ostovich. In that fight VanZant was taken down four times, but she was the better fighter on the feet. In the second round, she finished the fight with an armbar.
VanZant is averaging 3.40 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2.63 significant strikes per minute. VanZant is averaging 1.31 successful takedowns every 15 minutes and he also attempts one armbar during the same time period.
VanZant is going to put up a fight in this one, but she isn’t going to find a way to get the job done. Her takedown defense is a problem and that will let her down. Look for this fight to go the distance with Ribas coming away with the victory.
