The Washington Nationals and the Colorado Rockies square off Sunday in MLB action from Coors Field. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Washington Nationals vs Colorado Rockies Prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The Washington Nationals will send out Jake Irvin for the start here and Irvin is 5-6 with a 3.24 ERA and 71 strikeouts this season. This will be Irvin’s second career start against the Rockies. The Colorado Rockies will send out Kyle Freeland for the start here and Freeland is 0-3 with a 13.21 ERA and 9 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against the Nationals, Freeland is 3-2 with a 1.74 ERA and 21 strikeouts.

Washington Nationals Recap

The Washington Nationals come into this game looking to bounce back and win the rubber match after an 8-7 loss in Saturday’s matchup, evening the series up at one win apiece. A series win would be a welcome sight for the Nationals to bounce back from a series loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks to start the week.

Nationals Still On A Nice Run Despite Loss

CJ Abrams leads the Nationals with 76 hits along with 12 home runs and 39 RBIs to go along with 18 doubles, 5 triples and 11 stolen bases. Luis Garcia Jr. has 12 doubles with 33 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. Jacob Young has a team-high 17 stolen bases while Lane Thomas has 16 stolen bases and Jesse Winker has 12 stolen bases this season. Joey Meneses also has 36 RBIs as well this season.

Why the Washington Nationals will win

  • The Rockies have lost each of their last seven home games against National League opponents following a home win.
  • The Nationals have won each of their last eight games as favorites following a loss.
  • The Rockies have failed to cover the run line each of their last 13 home games against NL East opponents that held a losing record.
  • The road team has covered the run line in each of the last 11 games between the Nationals and Rockies.

Colorado Rockies Recap

The Colorado Rockies come into this one looking to win the series after an odd finish to Saturday’s matchup which gave the Rockies the victory. A series win would be much needed for the Rockies after series losses to the Dodgers and Pirates in the last week.

Rockies Still Showing Signs Of Life At The Plate

Ezequiel Tovar leads the Rockies with 91 hits including a team-high 23 doubles with 90 strikeouts as well this season while Ryan McMahon leads the Rockies with 14 home runs and 42 RBIs along with 17 doubles. Brenton Doyle’s added 11 doubles and a team-high 18 stolen bases as well and Elias Diaz has a team-best .303 batting average this season.

Why the Colorado Rockies will win

  • The Nationals have lost five of their last eight games as road favorites after playing the previous day.
  • The Rockies have won six of their last seven Sunday games as underdogs against the Nationals.
  • The Nationals have failed to cover the run line in seven of their last eight games as favorites against NL West opponents.
  • The Rockies have covered the run line in each of their last five day games against NL East opponents.

Washington Nationals vs Colorado Rockies Prediction

I’m on the Nationals here. Jake Irvin has been much more effective on the road this season and while it is his first start at Coors Field, I think the Nationals can get to Kyle Freeland here, who hasn’t been effective much this season and is making his first start since April. The Rockies can be a tough out at home, but I think the Nationals get to Freeland and ride the bullpen to the finish line to win the series here.

Chris Ruffolo's Pick: Washington -133
