Toronto Blue Jays Betting Preview

The Jays opened up their 2025 campaign on a tie in four games versus the rival Baltimore Orioles, then followed with a sweep over the Washington Nationals, and then a sweep by the New York Mets. The Blue Jays then bagged three straight wins of their own over the Boston Red Sox, but then lost the finale. Following a two-game split versus the Orioles, Toronto took out the Braves in a series, then lost a series against the Mariners. Toronto lost 7-0 and 5-1 to the Astros this week, then in Wednesday’s finale, the Jays gave up three runs in the second inning (and 13 team hits) in a 3-1 loss.

On Friday versus New York, Toronto scored three in the top of the ninth for a comeback win, 4-2. Starter Jose Berrios had 5.1 innings with five hits, two walks, and no earned runs.

It’ll be Kevin Gausman in the starter slot for the Jays on Saturday. So far this year, Gausman is 2-2 with a 3.16 ERA in five starts over 31.1 innings. Gausman is 104-104 with a 3.83 ERA in 334 career games (295 starts).

New York Yankees Betting Preview

Over on the New York side, they beat the Milwaukee Brewers in a sweep during their first set, then fell in a set against the Arizona Diamondbacks ahead of wins in two of three versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. New York would fall in their next pair of series against the Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants, then sweep the Royals. The Yankees bagged wins in three of four versus the rival Rays last weekend, then lost their first two games versus the Guardians this week, 6-4 and 3-2. In the Wednesday finale, the Yankees were able to stave off the sweep with a 5-1 victory. Starter Carlos Rodon put up 7.0 innings of clean ball with four hits and two walks.

On Friday, New York out-hit the Jays 10-9 but couldn’t get it done on the scoreboard. Starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco had 5.0 clean frames, three hits, and two walks.

Starter for the Yankees on Saturday will be Max Fried. This year, Fried is 4-0 with a 1.42 ERA in five starts across 31.2 innings. Fried is 77-36 with a 3.02 ERA in 173 games (156 starts) over his MLB career.

Blue Jays vs Yankees Prediction

I’ve got to stay with the Yankees here. New York’s fortunes get a boost with Fried on the mound. In his last three starts, he’s a smooth 3-0 with just two earned runs on 12 hits and four walks combined over 21.1 innings total. As for Gausman, he’s coming off four earned runs on six hits and three walks in 6.0 innings during a loss to the Astros on April 21. That said, Gausman’s prior two starts were good. He managed just two combined earned runs on 10 hits and no walks over 14.0 innings in that pair.

New York had a pretty quiet evening at the plate Friday, despite everyone but Paul Goldschmidt and Trent Grisham (each 0-for-5) bagging at least one hit. The bullpen breakdown didn’t help either. The Yankees need a much sharper effort in game two.

Andrew Jett's Pick: New York Yankees -180
