In this article we will formulate a Texas Rangers vs LA Angels prediction for this MLB game on Monday, July 8th at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. To formulate this prediction for game one in the series, we will examine:

Rangers are Showing Improvement

The Texas Rangers are 42-48 this year and they have won five of their last seven games. Texas is coming off of a series win against Tampa Bay, where they won all three games by scores of 3-0, 4-3, and 13-2. Prior to that series, the Rangers lost two out of three against the Padres, lost three out of four against the Orioles, and lost all three against the Brewers. Texas is just 5-8 in their last 13 games and they are third in the AL West.

The Texas pitching staff has a 4.00 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and a .230 opponent batting average. The Rangers offense has scored 389 runs with a .243 batting average and a .311 on base percentage. Marcus Semien is batting .229 with 12 home runs and 47 RBI’s for the Rangers this season. Texas has allowed three runs or fewer in six of their last seven games.

Angels Pitching Staff is Struggling

The Los Angeles Angels are 37-52 this season and they have lost six of their last seven games. Los Angeles is coming off of a series loss against the Cubs, where they lost two out of three games. Prior to that series, the Angels lost all three against the Athletics, won three out of four against the Tigers, and swept the Athletics in three games. Los Angeles is 7-6 in their last 13 games and they are fourth in the AL West.

The Los Angeles pitching staff has a 4.58 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and a .239 opponent batting average. The Angels offense has scored 359 runs with a .235 batting average and a .302 on base percentage. Taylor Ward is batting .238 with 14 home runs and 44 RBI’s for the Angels this season. Los Angeles has allowed at least five runs in seven of their last eight games.

Starting Pitchers

The projected starting pitcher for Texas is Jon Gray, who is 3-4 with a 3.92 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP over 80.1 innings pitched this year. Gray has allowed at least three earned runs in three of his last four starts. The projected starting pitcher for Los Angeles is Davis Daniel, who is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP over 13.1 innings pitched this season. Daniel pitched a gem in his first outing against Detroit, but allowed four earned runs and seven hits against Oakland in his last outing.

Texas Rangers vs LA Angels Prediction

The Rangers have really struggled to play well on a consistent basis so far this season, but they are heating up and will look to improve on their 18-27 road record here. Texas just swept Tampa Bay over the weekend and their pitching staff has been very good, but they are starting Gray, who has had plenty of issues recently. LA is 18-26 at home this season and they are going with Daniel, who has had one good start and one bad start. I think we have the potential to see a higher scoring game here, but I can’t trust the Rangers on the road with Gray on the mound. My Texas Rangers vs LA Angels prediction is for the Angels to win.
