The Tampa Bay Rays and the Miami Marlins will meet on Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three‑game National League interleague series at loanDepot Park in Miami, Florida.
Tampa Bay Rays Betting Preview
The Tampa Bay Rays enter Sunday’s contest with a 37–24 overall record (1st in the American League East) and a 16–15 mark on the road. The Rays offense has been competitive to this point in the season. Tampa Bay has compiled 262 runs scored (12th in MLB), 86 doubles, 52 home runs and a .256 batting average which ranks fourth in Major League Baseball.
The Rays arrive at tomorrow’s game in below average form. Tampa Bay have lost four of the team’s last five games played this season, including an 8–0 shutout loss to the Detroit Tigers earlier this week.
Tampa Bay will turn to right hander Griffin Jax in this contest. In seven starts made this season, Jax has compiled a 4.76 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP and 32 strikeouts, while allowing 34 hits and 16 walks in 34 innings pitched. Jax will look to continue his recent efficient performances on the mound in tomorrow’s matchup with the Miami Marlins.
The Tampa Bay Rays have compiled a formidable lineup this season featuring first baseman Yandy Diaz and third baseman Junior Caminero. Yandy Diaz enters this contest with a .326 batting average (6th in MLB), 11 home runs, 416 RBIs and a .933 OPS which ranks 11th in Major League Baseball. Junior Caminero has tallied a .281batting average, 14 home runs (17th in MLB), 38 walks, 30 RBIs and an .888 OPS (16th in MLB).
Miami Marlins Betting Preview
The Miami Marlins enter Sunday afternoon’s matchup with a 30–35 overall record (5th in the National League East) and a 19–16 mark at home. Miami has played quality baseball recently, winning four of the team’s last five games played this season, including a 4–1 victory over the Washington Nationals three days ago.
Miami will start right hander Sandy Alcantara in tomorrow’s game. In 13 starts made this season, Alcantara has compiled a 4–4 record, a 4.59 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and 57 strikeouts, while allowing 86 hits and 21 walks in 82.1 innings pitched.
Shifting our focus to the Miami offense, the Marlins lineup features shortstop Otto Lopez and catcher Liam Hicks. Lopez enters this contest with a rather impressive .333 batting average (2nd in MLB), 5 home runs, 10 walks, 26 RBIs, 10 stolen bases and an .831 OPS. Liam Hicks has tallied a .266 batting average, 12 home runs, 24 walks, 47 RBIs (4th in MLB) and an .815 OPS.
Why the Tampa Bay Rays will win.
• Starting pitching. Griffin Jax has compiled a 4.76 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP in 34 innings pitched this season.
• Offensive upside. Yandy Diaz and Junior Caminero lead the Tampa Bay Rays lineup.
• Ability to win on the road. The Tampa Bay Rays have compiled a 16-15 record on the road.
Why the Miami Marlins will win.
• Home field edge. The Marlins have played competitive baseball at loanDepot Park this season amassing a 19-16 record.
• Quality starting pitching. In 13 starts made this season, Sandy Alcantara has compiled a 4–4 record, a 4.59 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP and 57 strikeouts in 82.1 innings pitched.
• Offensive stability. Otto Lopez and Liam Hicks provide the Marlins lineup consistent production.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Miami Marlins Prediction
In my view, the way to go in this contest is the total rather than a side. Why? Tampa Bay starting pitcher Griffin Jax struggled in his last outing, allowing 3 home runs, 6 earned runs and 7 hits in the Rays 10-9 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Similarly, Miami hurler Sandy Alcantara has been inconsistent recently, allowing at least 6 earned runs in two of his last three starts made this season. For the reasons just noted, I am backing over 8.5 runs in this game.
