The Cleveland Guardians and the Tampa Bay Rays will meet Thursday afternoon in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Let’s take a look at this matchup from a betting perspective.

Tampa Bay Rays Betting Preview

The Tampa Bay Rays enter Thursday’s contest with a 98-64 overall record (1st in the American League East) and a 43-38 mark on the road. The Rays arrive at tomorrow’s playoff contest in good form, winning four of the team’s last five postseason games played this season, including a 4-3 victory over the New York Yankees earlier this month.

The Rays will turn to right hander Griffin Jax in this contest. In 23 starts made in 2026, Jax compiled an 8-10 record, a 3.53 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and 116 strikeouts in 112.1 innings pitched. Jax enters this playoff matchup in solid form, allowing one earned run or less in four of his last five starts made this season.

Shifting our focus to the Tampa Bay offense, the Rays lineup features Junior Caminero and Chandler Simpson. Junior Caminero has compiled 42 home runs, 101 RBIs and an .885 OPS. Chandler Simpson has amassed a .306 batting average (4th in MLB), 46 stolen bases and a .689 OPS.

Cleveland Guardians Betting Preview

The Cleveland Guardians enter Thursday’s matchup with an 85-77 record (1st in the American League Central) and a 41-40 mark on the road. The Guardians offense has been inconsistent this season. Let me be more specific. Upon the completion of the 2026 regular season, Cleveland compiled 678 runs scored (24th in MLB), 249 doubles, 162 home runs and a .239 team batting average which ranked a rather low 23rd in Major League Baseball.

The Guardians arrive at this contest with one of the top starting pitchers remaining in the postseason. Cleveland will hand the baseball to right hander Gavin Williams, who enjoyed an outstanding 2026 campaign. Williams compiled a 14-8 win-loss record, a 3.76 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and 248 strikeouts in 181.2 innings pitched this season.

Gavin Williams certainly performed at a high level in his most recent outing, allowing zero earned runs while scattering one hit and two walks across 5.2 innings pitched in the Guardians 2-0 shutout victory over the Chicago White Sox four days ago. Additionally, Williams struck out 12 Chicago batters in the game.

The Cleveland Guardians lineup features shortstop Brayan Rocchio and outfielder Chase DeLauter. Rocchio has tallied a .253 batting average, 15 home runs, 73 RBIs and a .705 OPS. DeLauter has tallied a .287 batting average (17th in MLB), 14 home runs and an .820 OPS.

Why the Tampa Bay Rays will win.

• Ability to win on the road. The Tampa Bay Rays have amassed a 43-38 win-loss record away from home this season.

• Starting pitching. In 23 starts made in 2026, Griffin Jax compiled an 8-10 record, a 3.53 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and 116 strikeouts in 112.1 innings pitched.

• Recent form. The Tampa Bay Rays have won four of the team’s last five games.

Why the Cleveland Guardians will win.

• Home field advantage. The Cleveland Guardians have played competitive baseball at home in 2026, compiling a 41-40 record at Progressive field.

• Starting pitching. Gavin Williams compiled a 14-8 win-loss record, a 3.76 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and 248 strikeouts in 181.2 innings pitched this season.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Cleveland Guardians Prediction

In my view, this matchup favors the Tampa Bay Rays staying within the number (1.5) with the upside of winning the contest outright. Why? Tampa Bay hurler Griffin Jax compiled an 8-10 win-loss record, a 3.53 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and 116 strikeouts in 112.1 innings pitched. Jax also arrives at this playoff contest in exceptional form, allowing one earned run or less in four of his last five starts made this season. With that said, the Rays are the clear side to be on in this one. I am backing the Tampa Bay Rays plus the 1.5 runs in this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Tampa Bay Rays +1.5
