St. Louis Cardinals Betting Preview

St. Louis took on the Atlanta Braves in their weekend set. The Cardinals lost the first game but came back for wins 9-5 and 6-2 in the next pair to take the series. After a 2-1 loss to the Pirates on Monday, in game two St. Louis eked out a 2-1 win. Lance Lynn put up 5.0 clean frames in the start with four hits and three walks.

Matthew Liberatore will start for St. Louis Wednesday. Liberatore is 2-2 with a 4.15 ERA and 41 Ks this year.

Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview

Over on the Pirates’ side, they played the Philadelphia Phillies in their last set. Pittsburgh lost the first pair before a 6-0 win Sunday to stave off the sweep. On Tuesday the Pirates got another good start from Paul Skenes, with 8.1 innings and two earned on four hits.

As starting pitcher for Wednesday the Pirates are sending out Martin Perez. So far Perez is 1-5 with a 5.61 ERA in 15 starts. He’s got a 4.50 ERA in 303 career games (258 starts) with an 86-86 record overall.

St. Louis Cardinals vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction

I might try the Cardinals here. Perez is struggling mightily over his last couple of starts. In that pair Perez is 0-1 with 11 earned runs in 8.1 innings of work total on 16 hits and five walks. It’s worth noting that Perez posted 7.1 innings with just one earned the last time he faced the Cards on July 4, though.

On Tuesday the Cardinals were able to break through and get the eventual winning run in the top of the ninth despite bagging just four team hits the whole way. St. Louis should have a better time with the bats Wednesday, but they used a lot of arms out of the bullpen in game two.

Andrew Jett's Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -105
