The San Francisco Giants and the Cincinnati Reds meet on Thursday in MLB action from Great American Ballpark. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a San Francisco Giants vs. Cincinnati Reds prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The San Francisco Giants will send out Logan Webb for the start here. Webb was 13-10 with a 3.47 ERA and 172 strikeouts last season. In his career, Webb is 2-2 with a 1.64 ERA and 30 strikeouts against Cincinnati. Hunter Greene will get the nod for the Reds here and was 9-5 with a 2.75 ERA and 169 strikeouts last season. In his career, Greene is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 17 strikeouts against the Giants.

San Francisco Giants Team Preview

The San Francisco Giants come into the 2025 season looking to get out of the middling zone of .500 baseball after finishing with an 80-82 record, missing the playoffs for the third year in a row. Webb anchors the Giants’ rotation that now homes a pair of former Cy Young winners in Justin Verlander and the returning Robbie Ray, along with one of the most formidable bullpens in baseball. The infield should be interesting to watch as Willy Adames comes over in free agency, and Matt Chapman should be an interesting addition as well to go along with Jung Hoo Lee, who is hoping for a clean bill of health after a shoulder injury cut his season short last year. Only time will tell if the Giants can give the Dodgers a run for their money in the NL West or if it’s just another year of purgatory for San Francisco.

Cincinnati Reds Team Preview

The Cincinnati Reds will hope to take a step forward in 2025 after a disappointing 2024 campaign where the Reds finished 77-85 overall, their second losing season in the last three years, and missing the playoffs for the 4th consecutive season. The Reds have a new face leading the charge with Terry Francona taking over as bench boss, hopefully instilling a winning culture in Cincinnati. Brady Singer was acquired from the Royals to bolster the Reds’ rotation, led by Greene alongside Graham Ashcraft and Nick Lodolo, among others. The Reds still have one of the most exciting lineups in baseball, led by Elly De La Cruz, TJ Friedl, and Spencer Steer, just to name a few, and the addition of Jonathan India adds more depth to the Reds’ batting order. The addition of Tito and the makeup of this exciting Reds roster should give Cincy fans plenty of optimism heading into 2025.

San Francisco Giants vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction

I’m on Cincinnati in this one. I get the case to be made for the Giants, but the Great American Ballpark is an equalizer of a ballpark, and Logan Webb is a pitcher I trust far more in San Francisco than on the road. Hunter Greene, like a lot of Reds’ pitchers, was more effective on the road than at home last season but still allowed just a .209 opponents batting average at home, and I don’t love this Giants’ lineup on the road against right-handed pitching. I think the Reds start the season on a high note and get the job done here. Give me Cincinnati.
