The San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies will meet on Tuesday night in the opening game of a three‑game National League series at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

San Diego Padres Betting Preview

The San Diego Padres enter Tuesday’s contest with a 32–26 overall record (2nd in the National League West) and a 16–10 mark on the road. The Padres offense has been inconsistent to this point in the season. San Diego has compiled 227 runs scored (29th in MLB), 79 doubles, 60 home runs and a .218 team batting average which ranks 30th in Major League Baseball.

The Padres arrive at tomorrow’s game in below average form. More specifically, San Diego has lost six of the team’s last seven games played this season, including a 3–0 shutout loss to the Philadelphia Phillies four days ago.

San Diego will turn to right hander Randy Vasquez in this contest. In eleven starts made this season, Vasquez has compiled a 5–3 win‑loss record, a 3.28 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP and 47 strikeouts, while allowing 57 hits and 17 walks in 60.1 innings pitched.

The San Diego Padres lineup features outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. and designated hitter Miguel Andujar. Tatis Jr. has compiled a .266 batting average, 1 home run, 18 RBIs, 14 stolen bases and a .658 OPS. Miguel Anduhar has tallied a .259 batting average, 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and a .733 OPS.

Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview

The Philadelphia Phillies enter Tuesday night’s matchup with a 30–29 overall record (3rd in the National League East) and a 14–16 mark at home. Philadelphia arrives at this contest in good form. Philadelphia has won four of the team’s last six games played this season, including a 4–3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers last week.

Philadelphia will start right hander Aaron Nola in tomorrow’s game. In eleven starts made this season, Nola has compiled a 3–4 record, a 5.72 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP and 56 strikeouts, while allowing 64 hits and 18 walks in 56.2 innings pitched. Nola is coming off one of his best outings of the season, allowing just three hits and no walks over six innings in the Phillies 4-3 win over San Diego five days ago.

Turning our attention to the Philadelphia offense, the Phillies lineup features first baseman Bryce Harper and outfielder Brandon Marsh. Bryce Harper enters this contest with a .261 batting average, 13 home runs (16th in MLB), 10 doubles, 34 walks, 34 RBIs and an .868 OPS (15th in MLB). Brandon Marsh has amassed a .317 batting average (3rd in MLB), 5 home runs, 24 RBIs, 3 stolen bases and an .821 OPS.

Why the San Diego Padres will win.

• Starting pitching. In eleven starts made this season, Randy Vasquez has compiled a 5–3 win‑loss record, a 3.28 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP in 60.1 innings pitched.

• Offensive potential. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Miguel Andujar continue to anchor the Padres lineup.

• Ability to win on the road. The San Diego Padres have amassed a 16-10 record on the road.

Why the Philadelphia Phillies will win.

• Home field edge. The Phillies have compiled a 14-16 record at home.

• Quality starting pitching. Aaron Nola has amassed a 3-4 record and a 1.45 WHIP in 56.2 innings pitched.

• Offensive production. Bryce Harper and Brandon Marsh provide the Phillies lineup with consistent power.

San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction

In my view, this matchup favors the Philadelphia Phillies. Why? Philadelphia starting pitcher Aaron Nola pitched exceptionally well in his last outing, allowing just three hits and no walks in a Phillies win over the Padres. Conversely, San Diego hurler Randy Vasquez gave up 8 hits and 4 earned runs in his last start resulting in a 4-3 loss to the Phillies. With that said, the Phillies are the side to be on in this one. I am backing the Philadelphia Phillies on the moneyline in this game.
