The San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies will meet Monday night in the opening game of a National League West series at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. Let’s take a look at this matchup from a betting perspective.

San Diego Padres Betting Preview

The San Diego Padres enter Monday’s contest with an 81-68 overall record (2nd in the National League West) and a 35-39 mark on the road. The Padres offense has been competitive this season. San Diego has compiled 639 runs scored (9th in MLB), 216 doubles, a .239 team average and 164 home runs which ranks 18th in Major League Baseball.

The Padres arrive at this contest in elite form. San Diego has won seven consecutive games, including a 7-5 victory over the San Francisco Giants two days ago.

The San Diego Padres will turn to right hander Casey Mize in this game. In 23 starts made in 2026, Mize has compiled a 5-9 win-loss record, a 3.70 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and 107 strikeouts in 119.1 innings pitched. Casey Mize has displayed flashes of quality pitching this season, including a recent outing against the Washington Nationals where Mize struck out seven Nationals batters in 5.2 innings pitched. Mize will look to continue his solid work on the mound in tonight’s matchup with Colorado.

Shifting our focus to the San Diego offense, the Padres lineup features Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado. Tatis Jr. enters this contest with a .289 batting average (15th in MLB), 21 home runs and 75 RBIs. Machado has tallied a team leading 27 home runs, 82 RBIs and a .712 OPS.

Colorado Rockies Betting Preview

The Colorado Rockies enter Sunday afternoon’s matchup with a 55–94 overall record (5th in the National League West) and a 30–41 mark at home. Colorado has played below average baseball recently, losing seven of the team’s last eight games played this season, including a 10–3 loss to the New York Yankees last week.

The Rockies will start right hander Tomoyuki Sugano in tomorrow night’s game. In 26 starts made in 2026, Sugano has tallied a 12-9 record, a 5.30 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP and 84 strikeouts in 137.2 innings pitched. Sugano has struggled recently, allowing five earned runs or more in four of his last five starts made this season.

The Colorado Rockies lineup features first baseman TJ Rumfield and catcher Hunter Goodman. TJ Rumfield enters this contest with a .298 batting average (8th in MLB), 15 home runs, 47 walks, 67 RBIs and an .846 OPS. Hunter Goodman has amassed a team leading 38 home runs (4th in MLB), 81 RBIs and an .831 OPS.

San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction

In my opinion, this matchup favors the San Diego Padres. Why? San Diego arrives at this contest in outstanding overall form, winning the team’s last seven games, while the Rockies have played subpar baseball recently, losing seven of the team’s last eight games. Additionally, Colorado hurler Tomoyuki Sugano has struggled recently, allowing five earned runs or more in four of his last five starts made this season. Having stated that, I am backing the San Diego Padres on the moneyline in this game.
