The Philadelphia Phillies and the San Diego Padres will meet on Monday night in the opening game of a three‑game National League series at Petco Park in San Diego, California.

Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview

The Philadelphia Phillies enter Monday’s contest with a 26–27 overall record (3rd in the National League East) and a 12–11 mark on the road. The Phillies offense has been inconsistent to this point in the season. Philadelphia has compiled 213 runs scored (23rd in MLB), 74 doubles, 62 home runs and a .229 team batting average which ranks a rather low 24th in Major League Baseball.

The Phillies arrive at tomorrow’s game in below average form. More specifically, Philadelphia has lost four of the team’s last five games played this season, including a 1–0 shutout loss to the Cleveland Guardians two days ago.

Philadelphia will turn to left‑hander Jesus Luzardo in this contest. In ten starts made this season, Luzardo has compiled a 3–4 win‑loss record, a 4.85 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP and a massive 66 strikeouts (10th in MLB) while allowing 15 walks in 55.2 innings pitched. Luzardo will look to continue his recent quality performances on the mound in tomorrow’s matchup with the San Diego Padres.

Turning our attention to the Philadelphia offense, the Phillies lineup features first baseman Bryce Harper and outfielder Brandon Marsh. Bryce Harper enters this contest with a .274 batting average, 12 home runs (16th in MLB), 10 doubles, 28 walks, 32 RBIs and an .888 OPS (17th in MLB). Brandon Marsh has amassed a .320 batting average (5th in MLB), 4 home runs, 22 RBIs, 3 stolen bases and an .814 OPS.

San Diego Padres Betting Preview

The San Diego Padres enter Monday night’s matchup with a 31–21 overall record (2nd in the National League West) and a 16-13 mark at Petco Park. The Padres have played competitive baseball recently, winning six of the team’s last nine games played in 2026, including a 1–0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this week.

San Diego will start right hander Randy Vasquez in tomorrow’s game. In ten starts made this season, Vasquez has compiled a 5–2 record, a 2.96 ERA (19th in MLB), a 1.19 WHIP, and 45 strikeouts, while allowing 49 hits and 16 walks in 54.2 innings pitched.

The Padres lineup features first baseman Gavin Sheets and designated hitter Miguel Andujar. Sheets has compiled a .253 batting average, 9 home runs, 23 RBIs, 3 stolen bases and an .838 OPS. Miguel Anduhar has tallied a .280 batting average, 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and a .790 OPS.

Why the Philadelphia Phillies will win.

• Quality starting pitching. In ten starts made this season, Jesus Luzardo has compiled a 3–4 win‑loss record, a 4.85 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP and a massive 66 strikeouts which ranks tenth in Major League Baseball.

• Offensive upside. Brandon Marsh and Bryce Harper continue to lead the Philadelphia Phillies lineup.

• Motivation factor. Philadelphia has lost four of the team’s last five games played this season.

Why the San Diego Padres will win.

• Home field advantage. The San Diego Padres have amassed a 16-13 record at home.

• Starting pitching edge. Randy Vasquez has compiled a 5–2 record, a 2.96 ERA (19th in MLB), a 1.19 WHIP, and 45 strikeouts in 54.2 innings pitched.

• Offensive balance. Gavin Sheets and Miguel Andujar provide the Padres with consistent production.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. San Diego Padres Prediction

In my view, this way to go in this matchup is the total rather than a side. Why? Philadelphia starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo has amassed a 1.31 WHIP and 66 strikeouts which ranks tenth in Major League Baseball, while San Diego hurler Randy Vasquez has compiled a 2.96 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. Clearly, both starting pitchers have the ability to suppress offensive production tomorrow night. With that said, I am backing under 8.5 runs in this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Under 8.5
