Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview

In their last series before the All-Star break, the Phillies played the Oakland Athletics. Philadelphia lost 6-2 in the opener of that set, but then came back for an 11-5 win in game two. In the Sunday rubber match however, the Phillies were blown out 18-3.

In the starter role for Friday’s game it’ll be Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola. So far this year Nola is 11-4 with a 3.38 ERA in 19 starts. Over his career Nola is 101-75 with a 3.70 ERA in 254 starts total.

Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview

Over on the Pirates’ side, they did quite well in their last series versus the Chicago White Sox. Pittsburgh posted wins in all three of those outings, taking victories 4-1, 6-2 and 9-4. The Pirates are 6-1 in their last seven games.

Martin Perez will start for Pittsburgh Friday. Perez is 1-5 with a 5.15 ERA and 57 Ks this year.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction

I might take a stab on the Phillies here. With the thick line I could probably go either way, though. Nola had a couple of reasonable starts at the beginning of this month, going 1-1 with six earned in 12.2 innings on 11 total hits. He posted a good outing on July 11 in his most recent appearance as well. Nola notched one earned in 6.0 frames in a win over the Dodgers there. Philly should be in pretty good hands with Nola on the mound.

All of that said, the Pirates have been playing quite well lately themselves. Pittsburgh has scored four or more runs in five of their last seven games. They’ve also held opponents to two or fewer runs in five of the last seven. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Pirates keep it going. This one’s a toss-up.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -250
