Jose Berrios Under 5.5 K’s

Toronto Blue Jays vs Philadelphia Phillies 5:07pm EST

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander José Berríos has made 12 starts, compiling a 2–2 record with a 3.86 ERA over 70 innings pitched. He has struck out 65 batters and holds a WHIP of 1.30. In his most recent outing, Berríos delivered a standout performance, pitching six scoreless innings, allowing only two hits, and striking out nine batters. After a performance like that, I want to fade Berrios in this spot. The Phillies’ bats came alive on Tuesday, scoring 8 runs. This Phillies lineup is dangerous, and we’ve seen Berrios struggle against some of the better lineups in the league. I expect Berrios to come down to earth in this one.

Ryan Gusto Under 2.5 Earned Runs

Houston Astros vs Pittsburgh Pirates 6:40pm EST

Houston Astros rookie right-hander Ryan Gusto has appeared in 13 games, including 7 starts, compiling a 3–2 record with a 4.62 ERA over 39.0 innings pitched. He has struck out 42 batters and holds a WHIP of 1.56. Gusto began the season in the bullpen but was moved into the starting rotation following injuries to key starters Spencer Arrighetti and Hayden Wesneski. Gusto has allowed less than 3 runs in his last 3 starts. I expect him to have another good outing going against the Pirates, who’re pitiful at the plate.

Lucas Giolito Over 5.5 Hits Allowed

Los Angeles Angels vs Boston Red Sox 1:35pm EST

Boston Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito has made six starts, compiling a 1–1 record with a 4.78 ERA over 32.0 innings pitched. He has struck out 26 batters and holds a WHIP of 1.44. Giolito began the season on the injured list due to a left hamstring strain and was activated on April 30th. It’s been an up-and-down season for Giolito. He’s coming off a good start against the Braves, but he has allowed 6+ hits in 3 of his last 5 starts. In one of those starts, he gave up 10 hits to a Rangers team that has struggled on the offensive side of the ball. The Angels’ bats have been connecting in this series, and I expect that to continue against one of the weaker starters in this Boston rotation.
