Nathan Eovaldi Over 5.5 K’s

Texas Rangers vs Los Angeles Angels 9:38 PM EST

At age 35, Nathan Eovaldi is delivering an incredible season for the Texas Rangers. Across 17 starts, he’s 96.0 innings, posting an 8–3 record, a stellar 1.50 ERA, and an elite 0.88 WHIP, while striking out 101 batters, good for a 9.47 K/9 rate and placing him among the American League leaders in wins and strikeouts. He’s allowed only 5 home runs, resulting in a minuscule 0.47 HR/9 rate. He’s recorded 6+ strikeouts in 7 out of his last 10 starts and has hit this number in 4 straight starts. I was surprised to see his strikeout line only set at 5.5, and I’m looking to exploit that.

Jose Berrios Over 2.5 Earned Runs

Toronto Blue Jays vs Baltimore Orioles 12:35 PM EST

Jose Berrios is coming into this one with a 7–4 record, 3.83 ERA, and 1.25 WHIP. He struck out 108 batters, translating to approximately 7.65 K/9, while maintaining solid control with a walk rate close to 2.5 BB/9. We have seen Berrios have some turbulent starts as of late, allowing 4+ earned runs in 3 of his last 5 starts. He’ll be up against an Orioles lineup that’s on fire right now. Baltimore has scored a total of 27 runs in the first two games of this series. The Blue Jays had to dig deep into their bullpen in both those games, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Berrios will be forced to go deeper in this game than expected.

Jeffrey Springs Over 2.5 Earned Runs

Seattle Mariners vs Athletics 10:05 PM EST

Springs comes into this one with a 9–7 record with a 4.13 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. He registered 95 strikeouts and issued 39 walks, translating to a 7.1 K/9. While his ERA hovered just above 4.00, underlying metrics like a 4.71 FIP raise red flags about his effectiveness. His strikeout rate ranks in just the 23rd percentile, and his ground-ball rate was among the lowest in MLB, forcing him to rely on fly-ball and line-drive contact to record outs. I see this giving him trouble in this matchup against the Mariners, who have hitters like Cal Raleigh who can homer in this small ballpark just off a fly ball. This ballpark has been extremely difficult for pitchers this season, and I expect the Mariners to have their way with Springs.
