In this article we will formulate a Miami Marlins vs Atlanta Braves prediction for this MLB game on Friday, August 2nd at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia. To formulate this prediction for game two in the series, we will examine:

Marlins Hoping for More Offense in Game Two

The Miami Marlins are 40-69 this year and they have lost three of their last four games. Miami lost the first game in this series and they scored just two runs in the loss. Prior to this series, the Marlins split two games with Tampa Bay, won two out of three against Milwaukee, and won two out of three against the Baltimore. Miami is 5-5 in their last 10 games and they are last in the NL East.

The Miami pitching staff has a 4.51 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and a .254 opponent batting average. The Marlins offense has scored 394 runs with a .237 batting average and a .290 on base percentage. Jake Burger is batting .239 with 15 home runs and 43 RBI’s for the Marlins this season. Miami has scored three runs or fewer in three of their last four games.

Braves are Chasing the Phillies

The Atlanta Braves are 59-49 this season and they have won three games in a row. Atlanta won game one in this series by a score of 4-2 on Thursday night. Prior to this series, the Braves won two out of three against the Brewers, split four games with the Mets, and lost both games against the Reds. Atlanta is 5-1 in their last six games and they are just six games behind the Phillies in the NL East.

The Atlanta pitching staff has a 3.45 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, and a .234 opponent batting average. The Braves offense has scored 459 runs with a .239 batting average and a .303 on base percentage. Marcell Ozuna is batting .303 with 31 home runs and 84 RBI’s for the Braves this season. Atlanta has scored at least four runs in six of their last seven games.

Starting Pitchers

The projected starting pitcher for Miami is TBD. The projected starting pitcher for Atlanta is Spencer Schwellenbach, who is 4-5 with a 4.06 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP over 57.2 innings pitched this year. Schwellenbach has allowed one earned run or fewer in two of his last three outings.

Miami Marlins vs Atlanta Braves Prediction

Atlanta has started to play much better over the last week and they are starting to close the gap with the Phillies in the NL East. The Braves are 31-21 at home this year, while the Marlins are 18-35 on the road. Miami is one of the bottom teams in the MLB, but they have played decent baseball over the last week. We don’t know what direction the Marlins will go in for their starting pitcher, but due to plenty of injuries, they don’t have many great options. Atlanta is going with Schwellenbach, who has been very serviceable in limited action this year. I don’t love not knowing the pitcher for Miami, but my Miami Marlins vs Atlanta Braves prediction is for the Braves to win by at least three runs.

David Racey's Pick: Braves -2.5
