Houston Astros Betting Preview

Over the weekend the Astros took on the Kansas City Royals. Houston took a four-game sweep in that set, then lost to the Reds 5-3 Monday in the opener. In Wednesday’s game two, the Astros took a blowout loss 12-5. Spencer Arrighetti posted nine earned on six hits and three walks in 0.2 innings during the start.

In the starter slot Thursday the Astros will go with Hunter Brown. This year Brown is 11-7 with a 3.55 ERA in 27 games (26 starts). Brown is 24-20 with a 4.12 ERA in 65 games (57 starts) during his career. The Astros will meet the Diamondbacks after this series.

Cincinnati Reds Betting Preview

Over on the Reds’ side, they played the Milwaukee Brewers in their last series. Cincinnati lost the first three outings before a 4-3 Sunday win. In Wednesday’s game, the Reds posted a 14-9 advantage in hits. Starter Nick Martinez posted 5.2 innings with one earned.

As a starter for Thursday, it’ll be Rhett Lowder. After his lone start (the first of his career) Lowder is 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA and six Ks in 4.0 frames. The Reds will face the Mets and Braves following this series.

Houston Astros vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction

I’m going to stick with Houston. Brown is on a great run right now. Over his last three starts, Brown is 1-0 with just two earned runs in 19.2 combined innings on nine hits and six walks. It’ll be interesting to see what Lowder can do in his second appearance on the other side.

On Wednesday Houston didn’t have much chance after the first inning. Overall the Astros didn’t play too badly from there, however. I like Houston to bounce back for a win in the finale.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Houston Astros -169
