In this article we will formulate a Giants vs Pirates prediction for this MLB game on Monday, August 4th at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this MLB matchup.

San Francisco Giants Betting Preview

The San Francisco Giants are 56-56 this year after they won two out of three against the Mets by scores of 4-3, 6-12, and 12-4. In their game three win, San Francisco trailed 1-0 in the first inning, but they scored 12 of the next 13 runs to pull away in the blowout win. The Giants recorded 13 hits and they committed one error in the game, while they were led by Devers, who went 3-4 with one home run and four RBIs in the win. San Francisco started Whisenhunt, who allowed three hits and one earned run over 5.1 innings for the win, while Walker allowed one earned run in relief.

Prior to that series, the Giants lost all three against the Pirates and all three against the Mets. San Francisco has lost seven of their last nine games and they are currently third in the NL West standings. The San Francisco pitching staff has a 3.68 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP, and a .243 opponent batting average, while the offense has scored 465 runs with a .233 batting average and a .312 on base percentage this season. Wilmer Flores has led San Francisco with 12 home runs and 59 RBIs, while Willy Adames has added 17 home runs and 59 RBIs this year. The projected starting pitcher for San Francisco is Justin Verlander, who is 1-8 with a 4.53 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP over 89.1 innings pitched this year.

Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview

The Pittsburgh Pirates are 48-64 this season after they lost two out of three against Colorado by scores of 16-17, 5-8, and 9-5. In their game three win, Pittsburgh led 8-1 and they were able to cruise to the easy victory. The Pirates recorded nine hits and they committed two errors in the game, while they were led by Horwitz, who went 3-5 with two home runs and six RBIs in the win. Pittsburgh started Keller, who allowed seven hits and five earned runs over 5.0 innings for the win, while Mlodzinski picked up a hold.

Prior to that series, the Pirates swept the Giants in three games and won two out of three against the Diamondbacks. Pittsburgh has won six of their last eight games and they are currently last in the NL Central standings. The Pittsburgh pitching staff has a 3.85 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP and a .236 opponent batting average, while their offense has scored 399 runs with a .223 batting average and a .304 on base percentage this season. Oneil Cruz has led Pittsburgh with 18 home runs and 48 RBIs, while Bryan Reynolds has added 10 home runs and 52 RBIs this year. The projected starting pitcher for Pittsburgh is Johan Oviedo, who is making his first appearance for Pittsburgh this year.

Giants vs Pirates Prediction

Pittsburgh comes into this contest after avoiding a sweep on Sunday afternoon and they have won six of their last eight games. The Pirates are 31-25 at home this season, while the Giants are 28-30 on the road. San Francisco did just win two out of three against the Mets, but they have struggled over the last few weeks. The Giants are starting Verlander, who has allowed a total of one earned run in his last 10.0 innings. The Pirates are going with Oviedo, who hasn’t pitched in the MLB since 2023 due to injury. I really don’t love how San Francisco is playing, but Verlander has shown improvement and we have to fade Oviedo here. Take the Giants to win.
