The Detroit Tigers and the Houston Astros will meet on Wednesday afternoon in the final game of a three‑game American League series at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.

Detroit Tigers Betting Preview

The Detroit Tigers enter Wednesday’s contest with a 30–43 overall record (4th in the American League Central) and an abysmal 12–27 mark on the road. The Tigers offense has been inconsistent to this point in the season. Detroit has compiled 299 runs scored (22nd in MLB), 112 doubles, 81 home runs and a .234 team batting average which ranks a rather low 25th in Major League Baseball.

The Tigers arrive at tomorrow’s game in below average form. Detroit has lost four of the team’s last six games played this season, including a 3–1 loss to the Cleveland Guardians four days ago.

Detroit will turn to right hander Casey Mize in this contest. In nine starts made this season, Mize has compiled a 2–3 win‑loss record, a 2.27 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP and 49 strikeouts, while allowing 34 hits and 12 walks in 47.2 innings pitched. It is noteworthy that Mize has allowed two earned runs or less in seven consecutive starts made this season. Mize will look to continue his strong recent performances on the mound in tomorrow’s matchup with the Houston Astros.

Shifting our focus to the Tigers offense, the Detroit lineup features catcher Dillon Dingler and outfielder Riley Greene. Dillon Dingler has amassed 16 home runs, 50 RBIs (10th in MLB), 14 doubles, 22 walks and an .868 OPS. Riley Greene has compiled a rather impressive .296 batting average (15th in MLB), 8 home runs, 16 doubles, 38 walks, 33 RBIs and an .837 OPS.

Houston Astros Betting Preview

The Houston Astros enter Wednesday afternoon’s matchup with a 34–41 overall record (4th in the American League West) and a 17–20 mark at home. Houston has played competitive baseball recently, winning three of the team’s last five games played this season, including an 8–7 victory over the Kansas City Royals last week.

Houston will start right hander Peter Lambert in tomorrow’s game. In ten starts made this season, Lambert has compiled a 5–4 record, a 3.47 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP and 53 strikeouts, while allowing 44 hits and 25 walks in 57 innings pitched.

The Astros lineup features outfielder Yordan Alvarez and first baseman Christian Walker. Yordan Alvarez has compiled a .326 batting average (3rd in MLB), 24 home runs (1st in MLB), 46 walks, 54 RBIs and a 1.075 OPS which ranks third in Major League Baseball. Christian Walker has tallied a .245 batting average, 18 home runs (9th in MLB), 25 walks, 52 RBIs (6th in MLB) and an .811 OPS.

Why the Detroit Tigers will win.

• Offensive upside. Riley Greene and Dillon Dingler continue to lead the Detroit Tigers lineup.

• Starting pitching. Casey Mize has compiled a 2–3 win‑loss record, a 2.27 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP and 49 strikeouts in 47.2 innings pitched.

• Motivation factor. Detroit has lost four of the team’s last six games.

Why the Houston Astros will win.

• Quality starting pitching. Peter Lambert has compiled a 3.47 ERA and 53 strikeouts across ten starts this season.

• Home field advantage. Houston has played competitive baseball at Minute Maid Park this season.

• Offensive production. Yordan Alvarez and Christian Walker provide a strong core to the Astros lineup.

Detroit Tigers vs. Houston Astros Prediction

In my opinion, the way to go in this matchup is the total rather than a side. Why? Detroit starting pitcher Casey Mize has pitched at a high level in 2026 compiling a 2.27 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP in 47.2 innings pitched. Mize has also allowed two or fewer earned runs in seven consecutive starts. Similar to Casey Mize, Detroit hurler Peter Lambert has pitched exceptionally well this season posting a 3.47 ERA. With that said, I see a game where offense is minimized due to quality starting pitching. In conclusion, I am backing under 9.5 runs in this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Under 9.5
