The Colorado Rockies and the Minnesota Twins will meet on Saturday night in the second game of a three‑game interleague series at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Colorado Rockies Betting Preview

The Colorado Rockies enter Saturday’s contest with a 32–50 overall record (5th in the National League West) and a dreadful 14–28 mark on the road. The Rockies offense has been inconsistent to this point in the season. Colorado has compiled 377 runs scored, 150 doubles (2nd in MLB), 88 home runs and a rather impressive .254 batting average which ranks fifth in Major League Baseball.

The Rockies arrive at today’s game in below average form. More specifically, Colorado has lost three of the team’s last five games played this season, including a 5–2 loss to the Boston Red Sox earlier this week.

Colorado will turn to right hander Michael Lorenzen in this contest. In sixteen starts made this season, Lorenzen has compiled a 2–9 win‑loss record, a 7.11 ERA, a 1.83 WHIP and 65 strikeouts, while allowing 113 hits and 26 walks in 76 innings pitched. Lorenzen has pitched well recently, allowing one or fewer earned runs in two of his last three starts made this season.

Shifting our focus to the Colorado offense, the Rockies lineup features first baseman TJ Rumfield and outfielder Troy Johnston. TJ Rumfield enters this contest with a .288 batting average, 12 home runs, 30 walks, 44 RBIs and an .854 OPS. Troy Johnston has amassed a robust .314 batting average (7th in MLB), 22 doubles, 3 home runs, 35 RBIs and an .818 OPS.

Minnesota Twins Betting Preview

The Minnesota Twins enter Saturday’s matchup with a 39–44 overall record (3rd in the American League Central) and a 21–22 mark at home. Minnesota arrives at this contest playing subpar baseball. The Twins have lost three of the team’s last four games played this season, including a 12–3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers three days ago.

Minnesota will start right hander Mike Paredes in this game. In three starts made this season, Paredes has compiled a 4.05 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP and 11 strikeouts, while allowing 15 hits and 9 walks in 20 innings pitched. It is noteworthy that Mike Paredes has pitched quality baseball this month. Paredes has allowed two or fewer earned runs in three consecutive outings.

Offensively, the Twins lineup features outfielder Byron Buxton and designated hitter Josh Bell. Byron Buxton arrives at this contest with a .276 batting average, 25 home runs (2nd in MLB), 43 RBIs, 22 walks, 7 stolen bases and a .920 OPS. Josh Bell has tallied a .244 batting average, 9 home runs, 51 RBIs (20th in MLB) and a .694 OPS.

Why the Colorado Rockies will win.

• Offensive upside. TJ Rumfield and Troy Johnston continue to lead the Colorado Rockies lineup.

• Team batting. The Colorado Rockies have amassed a .254 team batting average which ranks fifth in Major League Baseball.

• Motivation. The Rockies have lost three of the team’s last five games.

Why the Minnesota Twins will win.

• Starting pitching advantage. Mike Paredes has compiled a 4.02 ERA and 41 strikeouts across nine starts this season.

• Home field edge. Minnesota has played competitive baseball at Target Field this season.

• Offensive production. Byron Buxton and Josh Bell provide a strong core to the Minnesota Twins lineup.

Colorado Rockies vs. Minnesota Twins Prediction

In my opinion, the way to go in this one is the total rather than picking a side. Why? Colorado starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen has pitched well recently, allowing one or fewer earned runs in two of his last three starts made this season. Similar to Michael Lorenzen, Minnesota hurler Mike Paredes has pitched well over the last month, allowing two or fewer earned runs three straight outings. With that said, I think both starting pitchers can limit offensive production in this contest. For the reasons just noted, I am backing under 10.5 runs in this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Under 10.5
