Cincinnati Reds Betting Preview

The Reds spent their weekend playing the Milwaukee Brewers. Cincinnati won the first installment of that set before losses in the Saturday and Sunday games. After another loss to the Pirates 4-1 on Monday, in game two the Reds eked out a 2-1 win on nine team hits. Starting pitcher Nick Lodolo finished with 7.0 innings, one earned, four hits and no walks.

In the starter role for the Reds on Wednesday it’ll be Hunter Greene. This year over 14 starts Greene is 5-2 with a 3.61 ERA and 89 Ks in 82.1 innings. Greene is 14-22 with a 4.36 ERA in 60 career starts.

Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview

Over on the Pirates’ side, they took on the Colorado Rockies in their last series. Pittsburgh lost big 16-4 in the middle game but otherwise won 5-2 Friday and 8-2 on Sunday for a set victory. On Tuesday the Pirates had just four hits and couldn’t score outside of a Ke’Bryan Hayes solo homer in the seventh.

It’ll be Mitch Keller in the starting pitcher role for the Pirates on Wednesday. So far this year Keller is 8-4 with a 3.36 ERA and 78 Ks in 85.2 innings over 14 starts. Keller is 33-42 with a 4.52 ERA in 116 career games (114 starts).

Cincinnati Reds vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction

I’ll probably just go Pirates here. Keller needs a bit of a bounce-back effort on the mound. In his last start he put up four earned in 6.0 innings during a loss to the Cardinals. Keller had just one earned in 12.0 innings over two starts prior to that however, going 2-0 in that time. As for Greene, he’s given up 11 earned runs over his last 17.2 innings, going 2-0 as well.

On Tuesday the Pirates had a pretty limp offensive effort. Andrew McCutchen, Hayes and Bryan Reynolds (two hits) were the only ones to reach base. Pittsburgh’s other hitters certainly need to contribute Wednesday, but I think they’ll improve.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates -125
