The Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates will meet on Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three‑game National League Central series at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Cincinnati Reds Betting Preview

The Cincinnati Reds enter Sunday’s contest with a 20–13 overall win-loss record (2nd in the National League Central) and a 10–5 mark on the road. The Reds offense has been inconsistent to this point in the season. Let me be more specific. Through 33 games played in 2026, the Cincinnati Reds have compiled 141 runs (20th in MLB), 240 hits (28th in MLB), 48 doubles and 44 home runs, while posting an abysmal .220 team batting average which ranks 30th in Major League Baseball.

The Reds arrive at tomorrow’s game in poor form. Cincinnati has lost three of the team’s last four games played this season, including a 13–2 loss to the Colorado Rockies earlier this week.

Cincinnati will turn to right‑hander Chase Burns in this contest. In six starts made in 2026, Burns has amassed a 3-1 record, a 2.65 ERA (16th in MLB), a 1.12 WHIP and 39 strikeouts (21st in MLB), while allowing 26 hits and 12 walks in 34 innings pitched this season.

Offensively, the Cincinnati Reds lineup features shortstop Elly De La Cruz and first baseman Sal Stewart. Elly De La Cruz enters this matchup with a .277 batting average, 10 home runs (6th in MLB), 25 RBIs, 8 stolen bases and a .906 OPS. Third baseman Sal Stewart has compiled a .260 batting average, 9 home runs (10th in MLB), 29 RBIs and an .878 OPS which ranks 22nd in Major League Baseball.

Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview

The Pittsburgh Pirates enter Sunday’s matchup with an 18–16 overall record (5th in the National League Central) and a 10–9 mark at home. Pittsburgh has played well recently. The Pirates arrive at tomorrow’s contest on the heels of a two-game winning streak, including a 9-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds two days ago.

Pittsburgh will start right‑hander Braxton Ashcraft tomorrow. In six starts made this season, Ashcraft has compiled a 1-2 record, a 3.71 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP and 39 strikeouts (21st in MLB), while allowing 27 hits and 12 walks in 34 innings pitched.

Shifting our focus to the Pittsburgh offense, the Pirates formidable lineup features Oneil Cruz and Bryan Reynolds. Oneil Cruz has tallied a .257 batting average, 9 home runs (10th in MLB), 19 RBIs, and an .818 OPS, while Bryan Reynolds has compiled a .264 batting average, 4 home runs, 22 RBIs, 5 doubles, and an .846 OPS.

Why the Cincinnati Reds will win.

• Offensive balance. Elly De La Cruz and Sal Stewart continue to anchor the Cincinnati Reds lineup.

• Quality starting pitching. In six starts made in 2026, Burns has amassed a 3-1 record, a 2.65 ERA (16th in MLB), a 1.12 WHIP and 39 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched this season.

• Enhanced motivation. The Cincinnati Reds have lost three of the team’s last four games played this season.

Why the Pittsburgh Pirates will win.

• Starting pitching edge. Braxton Ashcraft has compiled a 3.71 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP and 39 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched.

• Home field advantage. The Pittsburgh Pirates have amassed a 10–9 record at home this season.

• Current form. The Pittsburgh Pirates arrives at this contest on the heels of a two-game winning streak.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction

In my view, this matchup favors the Pittsburgh Pirates. Why? Pittsburgh starting pitcher Braxton Ashcraft has amassed a 3.71 ERA and a robust 39 strikeouts which ranks 21st in Major League Baseball. Additionally, the Pirates have won two consecutive games. Conversely, the Reds have lost three of the team’s last four games. Cincinnati starting pitcher Chase Burns has pitched relatively well this season, but I am concerned about the Reds lineup providing the hurler with run support. With that said, I am backing the Pittsburgh Pirates on the moneyline in this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates ML
