The Chicago Cubs and the Colorado Rockies will meet on Wednesday night in the second game of a three‑game National League series at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado.

Chicago Cubs Betting Preview

The Chicago Cubs enter Wednesday’s contest with a 34–33 overall record (4th in the National League Central) and a 14–18 mark on the road. The Cubs offense has been inconsistent this season. Chicago has compiled 306 runs scored (11th in MLB), 98 doubles, 75 home runs (15th in MLB) and a .239 team batting average which ranks a rather low 19th in Major League Baseball.

The Cubs arrive at today’s game in below average form. Chicago has lost six of the team’s last eight games played this season, including a 2-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants last week.

Chicago will turn to left hander Shota Imanaga in this contest. In thirteen starts made this season, Imanaga has compiled a 4–6 win‑loss record, a 4.74 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP (19th in MLB) and 74 strikeouts, while allowing 63 hits and 19 walks in 76 innings pitched.

Shifting our focus to the Chicago offense, the Cubs lineup features Pete Crow-Armstrong and Ian Happ. Pete Crow-Armstrong has tallied a .254 batting average, 11 home runs, 32 walks, 29 RBIs (11th in MLB) and a .774 OPS. Ian Happ has compiled a .235 batting average, 14 home runs (17th in MLB), 34 RBIs, 40 walks and an .830 OPS.

Colorado Rockies Betting Preview

The Colorado Rockies enter Wednesday afternoon’s matchup with a 25–34 overall record (5th in the National League West) and a 13–19 mark at home. Colorado arrives at this contest in subpar form. The Rockies have lost four of the team’s last five games played this season, including a 12–4 defeat to the Milwaukee Brewers three days ago.

Colorado will start right hander Michael Lorenzen in tonight’s game. In thirteen starts made this season, Lorenzen has compiled a 2–8 record, an 8.01 ERA, a 1.99 WHIP and 48 strikeouts, while allowing 99 hits and 22 walks in just 60.2 innings pitched. Lorenzen will look to rebound from his poor start to the 2026 regular season in this evening’s matchup with the Chicago Cubs.

The Colorado Rockies lineup features outfielder Troy Johnston and catcher Hunter Goodman. Troy Johnston has tallied a robust .311 batting average (6th in MLB), 19 doubles, 17 walks, 28 RBIs and a .796 OPS. Hunter Goodman has compiled a team leading 18 home runs (6th in MLB), 33 RBIs, 11 doubles, 22 walks and an .845 OPS.

Why the Chicago Cubs will win.

• Starting pitching advantage. In thirteen starts made, Chicago starting pitcher Shota Imanaga has compiled a 4.74 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP (19th in MLB) and 74 strikeouts in 76 innings pitched.

• Offensive upside. Pete Crow-Armstrong and Ian Happ continue to lead the Chicago Cubs lineup.

• Enhanced motivation. The Chicago Cubs have lost six of the team’s last eight games played this season.

Why the Colorado Rockies will win.

• Offensive firepower. Catcher Hunter Goodman leads the team with 18 home runs.

• Quality lineup. Troy Johnston and Hunter Goodman provide a strong core to the Colorado Rockies lineup.

Chicago Cubs vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction

In my view, this matchup favors the Chicago Cubs. Why? Chicago starting pitcher Shota Imanaga has amassed a respectable 4.74 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP (19th in MLB) and 74 strikeouts in thirteen starts, while Colorado hurler Michael Lorenzen has been inconsistent in 2026, compiling an abysmal 8.01 ERA and a 2-8 win-loss record in 60.2 innings pitched. Lorenzen’s recent struggles on the mound leads me to side with the Cubs in this one. For the reasons just noted, I am backing the Chicago Cubs on the moneyline in this game.
