In this article we will formulate a Braves vs Phillies prediction for this MLB game on Thursday, August 28th at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this MLB matchup.

Atlanta Braves Betting Preview

The Atlanta Braves are 61-72 this year after they won two out of three against Miami by scores of 1-2, 11-2, and 12-1. In their game three win, Atlanta scored the first nine runs in the game and they picked up a very easy victory. The Braves recorded 11 hits in the game and they were led by Albies, who went 2-5 with one home run and five RBIs in the win. Atlanta started Wentz, who allowed four hits and one earned run over 6.2 innings for the win, while Stratton closed out the final 2.1 innings.

Prior to that series, the Braves lost two out of three against the Mets, but did win two out of three against the White Sox before that. Atlanta has won three of their last four games and they are currently fourth in the NL East standings. The Atlanta pitching staff has a 4.33 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP and a .245 opponent batting average, while their offense has scored 594 runs with a .244 batting average and a .321 on base percentage this year. Matt Olson has led Atlanta with 20 home runs and 74 RBIs, while Marcell Ozuna has added 20 home runs and 62 RBIs this year. The projected starting pitcher for Atlanta is Cal Quantrill, who is 4-11 with a 5.51 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP over 114.1 innings pitched this year.

Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview

The Philadelphia Phillies are 76-57 this season after they lost all three games against the Mets by scores of 3-13, 5-6, and 0-6. In their game three loss, Philadelphia fell behind in the third inning and their offense never woke up in the shutout. The Phillies recorded five hits in the game and they were led by Bohm, who went 2-3 in the loss. Philadelphia started Walker, who allowed 10 hits and four earned runs over 5.0 innings for the loss, while Banks allowed two earned runs in relief.

Prior to that series, the Phillies won two out of three against the Nationals and all three against the Mariners. Philadelphia has lost four of their last six games and they are currently first in the NL East standings. The Philadelphia pitching staff has a 3.85 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and a .245 opponent batting average, while the offense has scored 625 runs with a .256 batting average and a .326 on base percentage this season. Kyle Schwarber has led Philadelphia with 45 home runs and 110 RBIs, while Nick Castellanos has added 16 home runs and 61 RBIs this year. The projected starting pitcher for Philadelphia is Aaron Nola, who is 2-7 with a 6.52 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP over 58.0 innings pitched this season.

Braves vs Phillies Prediction

Philadelphia comes into this series looking to snap a losing streak, as their lead in the NL East is down to four games. The Phillies are 42-22 at home this year, while the Braves are 28-39 on the road. Atlanta is out of the playoff hunt, but they are about to pass Miami for third in the division. The Braves are starting Quantrill, who has allowed 3, 7, 1, and 7 earned runs in his last four starts. The Phillies are going with Nola, who has allowed eight earned runs and 12 hits over 8.1 innings since coming off of the IL. I don’t like this pitching matchup, but I can’t back Quantrill. Take the Phillies -1.5 here.

David Racey's Pick: Phillies -1.5
