Over the weekend the Sox took on the Detroit Tigers. Boston won 7-5 in the opener then fell 2-1 in the Saturday matchup. In the rubber match Sunday the Red Sox couldn’t score outside of the fifth inning in a 4-1 loss. Cooper Criswell logged 4.0 clean frames in the start with no hits, no walks, and five Ks.

In the starter slot for Monday, the Red Sox are going with Brayan Bello. In 25 starts this year Bello is 12-6 with a 4.66 ERA. In 66 career games (64 starts) Bello is 26-25 with a 4.48 ERA.

As starting pitcher for the opener the Mets will send out Luis Severino. So far over 26 starts, Severino is 9-6 with a 3.96 ERA. In 167 career games (151 starts). Severino is 63-43 with a 3.82 ERA.

Boston Red Sox vs New York Mets Prediction

I’m leaning toward the Mets. Severino does need a bounce-back start, though. In his last outing versus Arizona, Severino gave up four earned in 4.2 innings of work. Prior to that however, Severino had just one earned in 14.0 innings over two starts, winning both. As for Bello, he’s coming off 8.0 innings with zero earned in a win over Toronto.

On Sunday the Mets got a nice pitching effort across the board versus a hapless White Sox team. New York had several players come up empty at the plate though, so it’d be nice to see the offense get moving a little better on Monday.

Andrew Jett's Pick: New York Mets -156
