The Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Angels meet Sunday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Seattle Mariners vs LA Angels Prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The Seattle Mariners will start Logan Gilbert here and Gilbert is 6-5 with a 2.94 ERA and 115 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against the Angels, Gilbert is 2-2 with a 4.88 ERA and 31 strikeouts. The Angels did not have a starter announced at the time that this article was posted.
Seattle Mariners Recap
The Seattle Mariners come into this one looking to salvage a series split after falling short in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to the Angels. The loss really stings for the Mariners who can only earn a split from this set in an effort to build on their sweep of the Padres to start the week.
Mariners Clinging To AL West Lead
Going into Saturday, Julio Rodriguez leads the Mariners with 97 hits including a .264 batting average and also has 9 doubles. Cal Raleigh has a team-high 20 home runs along with 61 RBIs and 111 strikeouts. Mitch Haniger also has 8 home runs and 34 RBIs while Rodriguez has a team-high 18 stolen bases and 107 strikeouts as well this season. Dylan Moore has a team-high 14 doubles and Mitch Garver has 13 doubles also this season.
Why the Seattle Mariners will win
- The Mariners have won 11 of their last 12 day games against AL West opponents that held a losing record.
- The Angels have lost 11 of their last 12 day games against teams that held a winning record.
- The Mariners have covered the run line in eight of their last nine day games against AL West opponents that held a losing record.
- The Angels have failed to cover the run line in 10 of their last 12 day games against the Mariners at Angel Stadium of Anaheim following a home win.
Los Angeles Angels Recap
The Los Angeles Angels will try to win the series after taking Saturday’s clash to earn at worst a series split from the four-game set with the division-leading Mariners. The series win for the Halos is a welcome sight after series losses to the Rangers and Cubs over the last week.
Angels Trying To Finish First Half On High Note
Entering Saturday’s matchup, Taylor Ward has 77 hits along with 16 doubles, 14 home runs and a team-high 44 RBIs. Mike Trout also has 10 home runs along with a pair of triples and 6 stolen bases, but remains out indefinitely with injury while Zach Neto has 21 doubles, 78 strikeouts and 14 stolen bases. Luis Rengifo also has a team-high 79 hits and 22 stolen bases while Jo Adell has 14 home runs, 39 RBIs and 10 stolen bases as well. Logan O’Hoppe and Neto each have 79 hits as well with O’Hoppe adding 14 homers and 42 RBIs.
Why the Los Angeles Angels will win
- The home team has won seven of the last eight games between the Mariners and Angels.
- The Mariners have lost four of their last five games against American League opponents.
- The Angels have covered the run line in eight of their last 10 home games against AL West opponents.
- The Mariners have failed to cover the run line in five of their last six games against American League opponents following a loss.
Seattle Mariners vs LA Angels Prediction
I’m on the Mariners here. I’m not rushing to bet this one based on how the Mariners have looked in the last couple games of this series, but Gilbert has been one of the better starters in that rotation going back to last year, and if the Mariners seriously want to have hopes of making the postseason and winning the AL West, games like these are almost must-win. It would be nice to see who the Angels are starting here, but all-in-all, I think the Mariners still get it done and snag the win.
