The Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs meet Sunday in MLB action from Great American Ballpark. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Chicago Cubs vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The Cincinnati Reds will send out Frankie Montas for the start here and Montas is 3-4 with a 4.00 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. This will be Montas’ first career start against the Cubs. The Chicago Cubs will send out Shota Imanaga for the start here and is 5-1 with a 1.88 ERA and 65 strikeouts this season. This will be Imanaga’s first career start against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Reds Recap

The Cincinnati Reds come into this one looking to complete the sweep of the Cubs after a 4-3 win over Chicago on Saturday. The win on Saturday pushed Cincinnati’s win streak to 7 and gave the Reds another series win over the Cubs with a series win over the Rockies sandwiched in the middle.

Reds On A Roll At The Dish

Elly De La Cruz leads the Reds with 57 hits, 11 home runs and 29 RBIs with 34 stolen bases along with a .238 batting average as well. Spencer Steer has a team-high 40 RBIs with 15 doubles and 11 stolen bases while Will Benson also has 12 doubles with 9 stolen bases but also has 84 strikeouts while De La Cruz has a team-high 87 strikeouts so far this season. Jeimer Candelario also has a team-leading 14 doubles as well this season for Cincinnati.

Why the Cincinnati Reds will win

  • The Reds have won each of their last seven games.
  • The Cubs have lost each of their last seven day games against National League opponents.
  • The Cubs have failed to cover the run line in 18 of their last 19 games as favorites.
  • The Reds have covered the run line in five of their last six games as underdogs.
  • The Cubs have trailed after 5 innings in each of their last six games.

Chicago Cubs Recap

The Chicago Cubs come into this one looking to salvage something from the series after Saturday’s loss to the Reds. The Series loss was just another brick in the wall for the Cubs, but it also meant the Cubs wouldn’t be able to follow up their two-game sweep of the White Sox to start the week.

Cubs Cooling Down Offensively

Nico Hoerner leads the Cubs with 53 hits, 13 doubles and a .252 batting average while Christopher Morel has a team-high 12 home runs and 39 RBIs. Michael Busch has 8 homers with 23 RBIs but also has the unfortunate distinction of leading the Cubs with 71 strikeouts as well this season. Cody Bellinger also has 8 homers and 29 RBIs as well this season.

Why the Chicago Cubs will win

  • The favorites have won each of the Reds' last six games.
  • The Reds have lost three of their last four day games against the Cubs at Great American Ball Park following a win.
  • The Reds have failed to cover the run line in 11 of their last 12 day games against the Cubs at Great American Ball Park following a win.
  • The Cubs have covered the run line in 10 of their last 11 day games against the Reds at Great American Ball Park following a loss.

Chicago Cubs vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction

I’m on the Reds here. I’ve been an Imanaga fan for the better part of the season, but we’ve seen the lustre wear off of Imanaga in his last couple of starts after he really got hit hard in Milwaukee and then gave up five runs against the White Sox in his last start. Now, Imanaga has to try to regain his form against a Reds team that’s red hot right now in one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks in baseball. Even if Imanaga had a good start here, the Cubs had a hard time backing him up offensively at the best of times and I’m not sure I trust them to do it here either. I’ll continue riding the momentum and back Cincinnati here.

Chris’s Pick Cincinnati +113
