Tampa Bay Rays Betting Preview

The Rays played the rival Baltimore Orioles over the weekend and had some troubles. Tampa Bay lost the first two installments of that set 3-1 and 9-5, but managed to stave off the sweep with a 4-3 win in the finale. Rays starter Zack Littell went 6.0 innings in the Sunday game with three earned on 11 hits and a walk.

For the Tuesday matchup the Rays will send out Ryan Pepiot as starter. This year Pepiot is 3-2 with a 3.88 ERA and 51 Ks in 46.1 innings. Pepiot is 8-3 with a 3.18 career ERA in 26 games (19 starts) total.

Miami Marlins Betting Preview

Over on the Marlins’ side, they’re fresh off a weekend series versus the Texas Rangers. Miami posted an 8-2 win in the Friday opener of that set, then lost 7-0 in game two. In the Sunday rubber match the Marlins fell again in a shutout, this time 6-0. Starting pitcher Trevor Rogers gave up four earned on six hits and two walks in 6.0 innings there.

On Tuesday in the starting pitcher role it’ll be the Marlins’ Jesus Luzardo. This year Luzardo is 2-4 with a 4.18 ERA in nine starts. He’s got 50 Ks in 51.2 innings. Luzardo is 25-32 with a 4.18 ERA in 102 career games (86 starts).

Rays RF Josh Lowe (oblique) is expected to be activated from the 10-day Injured List ahead of Tuesday’s game. SP Zach Eflin (back) threw a 40-pitch bullpen session on Sunday.

Tampa Bay Rays vs Miami Marlins Prediction

I’ll take a stab on the Marlins. Luzardo had a bit of a shaky outing in his last start, going 6.0 innings with three earned on seven hits and two walks in a loss to the Padres. Prior to that however, Luzardo went 2-0 with zero earned in 14.0 innings on eight hits and no walks in two starts. As for Pepiot, he’s given up eight earned runs over his last 11.2 innings total.

Miami’s bats really need to get going in this one. The Marlins managed 17 runs in two games late last week, but since then they’ve been outscored 13-0 in two games. Provided Miami can get some offense on the board Luzardo should put them in a winning position.
