St. Louis Cardinals Betting Preview

The Cardinals took on the Cincinnati Reds in their last series. St. Louis lost 3-1 in the Monday opener but then came back for wins 7-1 and 5-3 in the next pair. On Friday versus the Phillies, the Cardinals took a 4-2 loss with just three team hits. Starter Miles Mikolas lasted 6.0 innings with three earned runs on five hits and a walk.

In the starting pitcher role for the Cardinals on Saturday it’ll be Sonny Gray. So far Gray is 7-2 with a 2.60 ERA and 67 Ks in 52.0 innings over nine starts. Gray is 105-87 with a 3.44 ERA in 288 career games (279 starts).

Over on the Phillies’ side, they played the San Francisco Giants this week. Philadelphia took losses in the first two games of that set 8-4 and 1-0. Wednesday was a 6-1 win to stave off the sweep, though. On Friday the Phillies scored three runs in the second inning alone. Aaron Nola posted 6.1 innings with two earned on three hits and two walks as starter.

St. Louis Cardinals vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction

I’ll stay with the Phillies. Suarez has pitched very well this year but did take his first loss in his most recent outing versus Colorado. Suarez posted four earned in 6.0 innings in that one, but prior to that he had just one earned in 12.0 innings during a pair of wins. As for Gray, he’s given up just one earned over his last 10.2 innings in a pair of wins of his own.

On Friday the Phillies spread out the offense pretty well, but a couple of key players came up empty all the same. The pitching really drove the victory, and I think Suarez will kick off another nice session on the mound Saturday.
