Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview

The Pirates played the Atlanta Braves over the weekend. Pittsburgh won the first two games 11-5 and 4-1 before taking an 8-1 loss in the finale. On Tuesday in their first matchup with the Tigers, the Pirates got rained out. That game was pushed back to Wednesday.

Pittsburgh will go with Jared Jones as the starter for game one. Jones is 3-4 with a 3.05 ERA and 68 Ks this year. In the starting role for the Wednesday game two the Pirates will send out Paul Skenes. This year in three starts (the first three starts of his career) Skenes is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 21 Ks in 16.0 innings total.

Detroit Tigers Betting Preview

Over on the Tigers’ side, they had a four-game series versus the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend. Detroit lost 9-1 in the Thursday opener of that set, but then took wins 6-2, 2-1 and 14-11 in the remaining trio.

Tarik Skubal will take the mound for the Tigers Wednesday in game one. Skubal is 6-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 72 strikeouts. The Tigers will send out Keider Montero for the game two start. This will be Montero’s MLB debut.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs Detroit Tigers Prediction

For game one I’ll likely go with the Tigers. Skubal could use a good bounce-back from his last start, though. On May 22 versus the Royals, Skubal gave up four earned on six hits and two walks in 5.0 innings during a loss. He was playing well before that, though. Skubal was 2-0 in the previous pair with two earned in 12.1 innings.

In game two I’ll probably stay with the Pirates. Skenes has gotten some good results so far, especially over his last two starts. In that pair combined Skenes is 1-0 with just one earned on six hits and two walks in 12.0 innings.

Andrew’s Pick Game 1: Detroit Tigers -125 --- Game 2: Pittsburgh Pirates +100
