The Royals are fresh off a weekend set versus the Tampa Bay Rays. Kansas City managed wins in the first two installments of that series, taking the games 8-1 and 7-4. In the Sunday finale the Royals took a 4-1 loss, giving up all four runs in the seventh. Starter Michael Wacha lasted 6.0 frames with two earned on three hits and a walk. As starting pitcher for Monday’s game the Royals are sending out Alec Marsh. In his eight starts this year Marsh is 4-1 with a 2.72 ERA and 36 Ks in 43.0 innings. Marsh is 7-10 with a 4.60 ERA in 25 career games (16 starts). The Royals will meet the Padres after this series.

Over on the Twins’ side, they played the Texas Rangers in their weekend series. Minnesota similarly won the first two games of that set by scores of 3-2 and 5-3. On Sunday in the finale, Minnesota had just three hits in a 6-2 loss. Pablo Lopez gave up six earned on seven hits and a walk in 4.2 innings during his start.

It’ll be Joe Ryan in the starting pitcher role for the Twins on Monday. This year Ryan is 3-3 with a 3.15 ERA in 10 starts. He’s got 64 Ks in 60.0 innings total. Ryan is 29-22 with a 3.92 ERA in 71 career starts. The Twins will face the Astros following this series.

Kansas City Royals vs Minnesota Twins Prediction

I’ll stick with the Twins. Ryan has a couple of good starts and one fairly rough outing in his last trio. On May 16 versus the Yankees, Ryan gave up four earned in 5.1 innings during a loss. In the other pair of his last three, Ryan is 2-0 with just one earned in 14.0 innings.

On Sunday the Twins got a rough start from Lopez with two runs surrendered in three different innings. The offense wasn’t much help on three hits either. That said, the bullpen was solid after the damage was done. Minnesota needs a much better effort Monday obviously but I think they’re still in good shape.
