The Houston Astros and the Oakland A’s square off Sunday in MLB action from Oakland Coliseum. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics Prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The Houston Astros will trot out Ronel Blanco and Blanco is 4-0 with a 2.09 ERA and 45 strikeouts this season. This will be Blanco’s second career start against the A’s. Oakland will send out Aaron Brooks here and Brooks is 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA and 8 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against Houston, Brooks is 0-5 with an 8.65 ERA and 17 strikeouts.
Houston Astros Recap
The Houston Astros come into this one looking to rebound after a 3-1 loss to the A’s on Saturday. Losing the rubber match on Saturday would put the Astros at risk of back-to-back series losses after losing to the Angels to start the week.
Astros Still Showing Up Offensively
Jose Altuve has 62 hits and a .294 batting average with 9 home runs, 18 RBIs and 10 doubles while Kyle Tucker has a team-high 17 homers with 11 doubles and 37 RBIs. Yordan Alvarez also has 9 homers with 22 RBIs while Tucker has the Astros’ team lead with 9 stolen bases so far this season. Jeremy Pena also has a team-high 64 hits and a .318 batting average as well this season.
Why the Houston Astros will win
- The Astros have won 12 of their last 13 road games against AL West opponents following a loss.
- The Athletics have lost nine of their last 10 games against American League opponents.
- The Athletics have failed to cover the run line in nine of their last 10 games.

- The Athletics have trailed after 5 innings in each of their last eight Sunday games against American League opponents that held a losing record.
- The Athletics have trailed after 3 innings in each of their last six Sunday games.
Oakland A’s Recap
The Oakland A’s would love to get a win to string together back-to-back triumphs as well as back-to-back series wins after knocking off the Rockies earlier in the week.
A’s Need Better Production At The Plate
Brent Rooker leads the A’s with 11 home runs and 34 RBIs this season while Abraham Toro has a team-high 52 hits and 19 RBIs. JJ Bleday has a team-high 15 doubles, 46 hits and 22 RBIs and Toro has a .274 batting average. Rooker also has the unfortunate title of leading strikeout bat with 57 K’s at the dish this season. Shea Langeliers has also chipped in 10 home runs and 26 RBIs.

- The Astros have failed to cover the run line each of their last five day games against AL West opponents that held a losing record.
- The Athletics have covered the run line in four of their last five home games against AL West opponents that held a losing record.

- The Astros have lost the first inning in each of their last three road games against AL West opponents.
Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics Prediction
I’m on the Astros in this one. Not one I’m probably rushing to bet, but the A’s have been so inconsistent offensively and there’s only so many times that you can get away with winning a game scoring three runs or less. Ronel Blanco’s back after serving his suspension and it’ll be interesting to see if he can thrive without having the sticky stuff to rely on, but I still trust the Astros lineup a heck of a lot more than I trust Oakland’s at this point and I think the A’s are in some trouble here. Give me Houston in this one.
