Pittsburgh came back with a 5-4 Thursday win over the Cubs, then on Friday the Pirates powered out a 9-3 win. Starting pitcher Paul Skenes posted 6.0 clean frames with no hits, one walk and 11 Ks.

In the starting pitcher slot for game three the Pirates are going with Bailey Falter. This year Falter is 2-2 with a 4.15 ERA and 27 Ks in 43.1 innings over eight starts. Falter is 12-16 with a 4.66 ERA in 68 career games (39 starts).

Over on the Cubs’ side, they played three games versus the Braves this week. Chicago lost in shutout fashion 2-0 and 7-0 over the first pair, but halted the sweep with a 7-1 Wednesday win. After their Friday loss, on Saturday the Cubs could only manage four team hits. Starter Kyle Hendricks had a rough day with 4.2 innings, seven earned, 11 hits and four Ks.

It’ll be Shota Imanaga in the starting pitcher slot for the Cubs on Saturday. So far this year Imanaga is 5-0 with a 0.96 ERA over eight starts (the first eight starts of his career). He’s got 51 Ks in 46.2 innings total.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs Chicago Cubs Prediction

I’ll stay with the Cubs. Chicago should get a quality outing from Imanaga if he can keep it going. Over his last three starts total, Imanaga is 1-0 with two earned on 17 hits and five walks in 19.0 total innings. Falter has 10 earned in 16.1 innings over his last three starts combined, going 0-1 in that time.

On Friday the Cubs had a rough offensive outing as Skenes cruised through six innings. The Chicago bats need to wake up Saturday but I think they’ve got a good shot at a W in game three.

Andrew’s Pick Chicago Cubs -179
