The St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers meet Sunday in MLB action from American Family Field. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The St. Louis Cardinals come into this one sending Miles Mikolas to the hill here and Mikolas is 2-5 with a 6.43 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against the Brewers, Mikolas is 3-2 with a 4.11 ERA and 29 strikeouts. Milwaukee will send out Bryse Wilson to the mound here and is 2-1 with a 2.40 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. In his career, Wilson is 0-3 with a 13.50 ERA and 11 strikeouts against the Cardinals.
St. Louis Cardinals Recap
The St. Louis Cardinals will try to salvage something from this series and avoid the sweep after a 5-3 loss to Milwaukee in Saturday’s matchup. The loss was the 6th straight in the head-to-head matchup between the two this season for St. Louis, but it also means another series loss as the Cardinals have not won a series in the month of May with losses to the Mets, White Sox and Tigers before this series.
Cardinals Have The Talent On Paper, Just Not Producing Where It Counts
Nolan Arenado leads the Cardinals with 40 hits along with 9 doubles and a team-high 20 RBIs while Brendan Donovan has 19 RBIs with 8 doubles. Willson Contreras has a team-high 6 home runs along with 12 RBIs in addition to 11 doubles while Masyn Winn has a .275 batting average and 6 stolen bases. Paul Goldschmidt also has a team-high 51 strikeouts as well this season.
Why the St. Louis Cardinals will win
- The Brewers have lost four of their last five day games after playing the previous day.
- The Cardinals have covered the run line in seven of their last eight day games against the Brewers at American Family Field following a loss.
- The Brewers have failed to cover the run line in five of their last six day games against the Cardinals at American Family Field following a home win.
Milwaukee Brewers Recap
The Milwaukee Brewers will try to push for another sweep of the rival Cardinals after their win on Saturday, and the series win is a welcome sight after series losses to the Royals and Cubs in the last week.
Brewers Finally Get it Going
William Contreras leads the Brewers with 52 hits including 13 doubles and 30 RBIs along with 5 home runs and a .427 OBP while Rhys Hoskins has a team-high 9 home runs with 26 RBIs and Willy Adames has 7 home runs and 27 RBIs. Brice Turang leads the Brewers with 16 stolen bases while Jackson Chourio has a team-high 36 strikeouts as well this season.
Why the Milwaukee Brewers will win
- The Brewers have won each of their last 10 games against National League opponents that held a losing record.
- The Cardinals have lost each of their last eight games after playing the previous day.
- The Brewers have covered the run line each of their last eight day games against teams that held a losing record.
- The Cardinals have failed to cover the run line in each of their last eight games after playing the previous day.
- The Cardinals have trailed after 3 innings in each of their last three day games.
- The Brewers have led after 5 innings in each of their last six day games against the Cardinals at American Family Field.
Cardinals vs. Brewers Prediction
I’m on the Brewers here. Until I see signs of life from the Cardinals in this head-to-head matchup, I’m going to keep going the other way, especially when I see Miles Mikolas as the alternative. Mikolas has struggled regardless of where he’s pitched this season and I think this is going to be another tough outing for him here. I just want no part of the Cardinals right now, who continue to disappoint, and I think the Brewers take advantage once again. Give me Milwaukee.
Chris’s Pick Milwaukee -127
