The New York Mets and the St. Louis Cardinals meet Wednesday in MLB action from Busch Stadium. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a New York Mets vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The Mets will be sending out Jose Quintana here and Quintana is 1-3 with a 5.20 ERA and 25 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against the Cardinals, Quintana is 1-1 with a 4.32 ERA and 22 strikeouts. Sonny Gray will get the start for the Cardinals in this game and is 4-1 with a 0.89 ERA and 38 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gray is 4-0 with a 2.31 ERA and 27 strikeouts against the Mets.
New York Mets Recap
The New York Mets will look to finish off the sweep of St. Louis after their 7-5 win in Tuesday’s matchup. The Mets have locked up the series win to bounce back from being swept by the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend, but sweeping the Cards in the follow-up set would be the cherry on top.
New York Getting Consistent Production
Starling Marte leads the Mets with 36 hits along with 5 doubles, 4 home runs and 15 RBIs while Pete Alonso has a team-high 9 homers and 19 RBIs as well this season. Brandon Nimmo’s chipped in a team-high 25 RBIs with 7 doubles while Francisco Lindor also has 7 doubles with 6 home runs and 20 RBIs as well as 4 stolen bases. The aforementioned Marte also has 7 stolen bases of his own as well this season.
Why the New York Mets will win
- Probable Starting Pitcher: Jose Quintana Record this season: 1-3 ERA: 5.20
- The Cardinals have lost each of their last five games as favorites after playing the previous day.
- The underdogs have won each of the Cardinals' last four games.

St. Louis Cardinals Recap
The St. Louis Cardinals could really use a win to salvage something from this series after their loss to the Mets on Tuesday. The loss meant ANOTHER series loss for the Cards after losing their series with the White Sox over the weekend and the Tigers this time last week.
Cardinals Offense Still Has The Names, But Doesn’t Have The Punch
Nolan Arenado leads the Cardinals with 39 hits along with 8 doubles and a team-high 20 RBIs while Brendan Donovan has 19 RBIs with 8 doubles. Willson Contreras has a team-high 6 home runs along with 12 RBIs in addition to 11 doubles while Masyn Winn has a .265 batting average and 5 stolen bases. Paul Goldschmidt also has a team-high 47 strikeouts as well this season.
Why the St. Louis Cardinals will win
- Probable Starting Pitcher: Sonny Gray Record this season: 4-1 ERA: 0.89
- The Mets have lost each of their last seven day games against NL Central opponents following a road win.
- The Cardinals have won six of their last eight day games against the Mets following a loss.
- The Mets have failed to cover the run line in eight of their last nine day games against NL Central opponents following a road win.
- The Cardinals have covered the run line in each of their last seven Wednesday day games against National League opponents.
New York Mets vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction
I’m leaning towards the Cardinals here. I don’t love the game personally, considering that the Cardinals have found creative ways to lose left and right in this series. However, they have the better starting pitching option in this matchup by a mile as Jose Quintana’s been getting torched left and right away from home in his last couple of outings and if there’s a spot for a Cardinals bounce back, I think it’s this one. Give me St. Louis.
