The San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs meet Tuesday in MLB action from Wrigley Field. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a San Diego Padres vs Chicago Cubs Prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The San Diego Padres will send out Randy Vasquez here and Vasquez is 0-1 with a 5.87 ERA and 5 strikeouts this season. This will be Vasquez’s first career start against the Cubs. The Chicago Cubs will trot out Shota Imanaga here and Imanaga is 5-0 with a 0.78 ERA and 35 strikeouts this season. This will be Imanaga’s first career start against the Padres.

San Diego Padres Recap

The San Diego Padres got the series started by knocking off the Cubs by a final score of 6-3. The game was scoreless through the first five innings, but all of San Diego’s scoring came in the 6th inning and while Chicago tried the comeback attempt, it wasn’t enough as San Diego got the win to try to build on back-to-back series wins over Arizona and Cincinnati.

Padres Starting To Click

Going into Monday’s opener, Jurickson Profar leads the Padres with 42 hits along with a .344 batting average and 8 doubles with 5 homers and 23 RBIs. Jake Cronenworth has a team-high 25 RBIs while Fernando Tatis Jr. has belted a team-high 7 home runs this season. Manny Machado has 5 home runs and 21 RBIs but also has 31 strikeouts while Ha-Seong Kim has 27 hits with 2 triples, 4 doubles, 5 home runs, 21 RBIs and a team-high 7 stolen bases.

Why the San Diego Padres will win

  • Probable Starting Pitcher: Randy Vasquez Record this season: 0-1 ERA: 5.87
  • The underdogs have won seven of the Cubs' last eight games at Wrigley Field.
  • The Cubs have lost four of their last five games as favorites against NL West opponents following a loss.
  • The underdogs have covered the run line in each of the Cubs' last eight games at Wrigley Field.
  • The Cubs have failed to cover the run line in each of their last five games as favorites.

Chicago Cubs Recap

The Chicago Cubs will be looking to bounce back after their loss to the Padres in Monday’s opener. The Cubs tried rallying behind a pair of home runs from Christopher Morel and Yan Gomes, but it wasn’t enough as the Cubs were outhit 11-7 in the losing effort, failing to start their series right after a series win over the Brewers this past weekend.

Cubs Need To Pick It Up At The Plate

Entering Monday, Nico Hoerner leads the Cubs with 37 hits, 10 doubles and a .282 batting average while Christopher Morel has a team-high 7 home runs and 21 RBIs. Michael Busch has 6 homers with 18 RBIs but also has the unfortunate distinction of leading the Cubs with 42 strikeouts as well this season.

Why the Chicago Cubs will win

  • Probable Starting Pitcher: Shota Imanaga Record this season: 5-0 ERA: 0.78
  • The Cubs have won eight of their last nine games against National League opponents following a loss.
  • The Padres have lost each of their last five games against the Cubs following a win.
  • The Cubs have covered the run line in seven of their last eight games against NL West opponents following a home loss.
  • The Padres have failed to cover the run line in each of their last five games against the Cubs following a win.
  • The Cubs have led after 3 innings in each of their last six Tuesday games against the Padres at Wrigley Field.
  • The Cubs have led after 5 innings in each of their last six Tuesday games against the Padres at Wrigley Field.

San Diego Padres vs Chicago Cubs Prediction

I’m on the Cubs here. The Padres got the win on Monday, but it was worth noting that all of the runs came against Chicago’s bullpen and the Padres continued to struggle against lefties as Justin Steele went 4.2 shutout innings and allowed just three hits. Shota Imanaga’s been lights out so far this season and is not a guy I’m really looking to step in front of. The Padres have bats that can come alive with guys like Machado and Tatis Jr. and now Luis Arraez, but the numbers are what they are and Imanaga can go a lot longer than Steele and not have to rely on the Cubs’ bullpen. I think the Cubs get the bounce back here. Give me Chicago in this one.
