The Los Angeles Angels and the Cleveland Guardians meet Sunday in MLB action from Progressive Field. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Los Angeles Angels vs. Cleveland Guardians prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
Griffin Canning will get the start for the Angels and is 1-3 with a 7.45 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season. This will be Canning’s second career start against Cleveland. Carlos Carrasco will get the start for the Guardians here and is 1-2 with a 6.59 ERA and 23 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against the Angels, Carrasco is 1-2 with a 4.71 ERA and 28 strikeouts.
Los Angeles Angels Recap
The Los Angeles Angels come into this one looking to bounce back and win the rubber match after falling to the Guardians on Saturday by a final count of 7-1. The Angels could sorely use the series win here as the Halos have not won a series since sweeping the Marlins at the beginning of April.
Ward Can’t Do It On His Own With Trout Out
Taylor Ward leads the Angels with 37 hits along with 7 home runs and a team-high 24 RBIs. Mike Trout has a team-high 10 home runs along with a pair of triples and 6 stolen bases while Zach Neto has a team-high 35 strikeouts and 5 stolen bases. Luis Rengifo also has a team-high 9 stolen bases as well.
Why the Los Angeles Angels will win
- Probable Starting Pitcher: Griffin Canning Record this season: 1-3 ERA: 7.45
- The Angels have won five of their last six games as road underdogs against American League opponents following a loss.
- The Guardians have lost each of their last four games following a win.
- The Angels have covered the run line in each of their last six road games against American League opponents following a loss.
- The Guardians have failed to cover the run line in nine of their last 11 day games against teams that held a losing record.
- The Angels have led after 5 innings in three of their last four games as road underdogs against AL Central opponents.
Cleveland Guardians Recap
The Cleveland Guardians will be looking to win the series after a resounding response in Saturday’s comfortable win. The win would give the Guardians a much-needed series win of their own to bounce back after series losses to the Astros and Braves over the last week.
Guardians Find A Way, It’s Not Pretty, But It’s Effective
Steven Kwan leads the Guardians with 47 hits including 3 home runs, 11 RBIs, 6 doubles and a pair of triples with a .353 batting average and a .407 OBP. Josh Naylor has a team-high 7 home runs with 24 RBIs and 7 doubles while Jose Ramirez has 5 homers with 25 RBIs. Brayan Rocchio has a team-high 8 doubles and 5 stolen bases as well this season.
Why the Cleveland Guardians will win
- Probable Starting Pitcher: Carlos Carrasco Record this season: 1-2 ERA: 6.59
- The Guardians have won each of their last 16 games against the Angels at Progressive Field following a home win.
- The Angels have lost each of their last nine day games after playing the previous day.
- The Guardians have covered the run line in each of their last seven day games following a win.
- The Angels have failed to cover the run line in each of their last four road games after playing the previous day.
- The Guardians have led after 3 innings in each of their last three day games.
- The Angels have trailed after 5 innings in each of their last seven day games against American League opponents.
Angels vs. Guardians Prediction
I’m on the over in this one. Carlos Carrasco has been arguably the weakest link in Cleveland’s rotation so far this season and that was on full display last time out as he got torched by Houston for eight runs. I’m not sure the Angels do that same damage, but they’ve become more effective against righties in recent weeks. On the other side, Canning’s been struggling as well and the Guardians’ offense just has a tendency to peck away and peck away at opposing teams until they pull ahead and find a way to put offense on the board. I think this game is no different. I’m expecting an all-out offensive clinic. Give me the over.
