New York Mets Betting Preview

The Mets played the Chicago Cubs in their last series. New York managed a split over four games in that one, winning 4-2 Tuesday and 7-6 on Thursday. In the Friday matchup versus the Rays, the Mets gave up 13 hits total (and had 10 themselves) in a wild 10-8 loss. Starter Jose Quintana imploded on 2.2 innings, 10 hits, eight earned and one walk.

In the starting pitcher role for the Mets on Saturday it’ll be Christian Scott. This will be Scott’s MLB debut. He was the fifth-round pick out of the 2021 draft and will be part of the Mets’ six-man rotation moving forward.

Tampa Bay Rays Betting Preview

Over on the Rays’ side, they took on the Milwaukee Brewers this week. Tampa Bay won 1-0 in the opener of that set, but then lost 8-2 and 7-1 in the remaining games to drop the series. On Friday Tampa Bay really got going in the third inning with five runs scored. Starter Aaron Civale struggled as well with 4.2 innings, seven earned, six hits and a walk.

It’ll be Zack Littell in the starting pitcher role for the Mets on Saturday. Across his six starts this year Littell is 1-2 with a 3.27 ERA and 35 Ks in 33.0 innings. Littell is 17-13 with a 4.00 ERA in 179 career games (24 starts).

New York Mets vs Tampa Bay Rays Prediction

I’ll lean toward the Rays. Probably not touching this one, though. Littell has been pretty choppy lately. He’s got one rough start in his most recent trio (6.0 innings; five earned versus the Tigers) with five earned in 11.2 innings over the other pair. As for Scott, it’ll be interesting to see what he can do in his debut, but I don’t expect him to go too deep into this game.

On Friday, the Rays had a great offensive day, which cancelled out a rough performance by Civale in the start. The good news is that Tampa Bay’s pen did very well on 4.1 innings, four hits, one earned, no walks and four Ks combined. Saturday’s matchup is probably a coin flip, but it’ll be fascinating.

Andrew’s Pick Tampa Bay Rays -120
